Why do WE create comics?

Was looking over some old stories we'd done since the 1990s and it suddenly occurred to us why we personally do it.
Because neither of us can draw very well, but we feel the stories we've done would look fantastic if illustrated somehow.

That, or they'd make great movies - but we haven't millions of dollars to blow away.

There must be others out there who see this same viewpoint, right? You're creating these because words just don't do enough for you. You need another medium out there that better expresses what you've got lined up in that head of yours, or jotted down in bundles of paper notes.

We're with you. Go with it.

2.) It's nice to have my own thing
3.) I love my characters and it would be nice to see them illustrated.

I have one that I made in the early 2000s. It was about a boy being sucked into a wormhole to the Middle Ages. The plot made no sense and I think I only made it because I read the sequel to Castle in the Attic.

I also have these old doodles of angel people. I remember I had this one story idea but I was too dyslexic to write it down so I drew a bunch of concept art.

I've always liked telling stories - back in the day gave my shot at writing novels, but I've always been better with visuals than words and descriptions Ideally I'd love to animate it all, but considering that making a 2-3 minute animation could take me months (+ I'd have to cut down on quality of shading etc. to make it doable), comics are a good enough compromise

I decided to make comics because it was a way to combine my love of art with writing. When I was writing my stories, I always imagined them in my head a very specific way, so being able to show that on paper with my art is super fulfilling for me.

I find that comics show what's in my head a lot easier than my novel writing does (although I really enjoy writing novels as well) I also find myself very inspired by other people's comics so I find myself really motivated to make something I'm proud of! I want to one day hold a physical copy of my comic.

Another reason for me is that I write what I would enjoy reading. I can make whatever I want canon, and that freedom is amazing.

Coz it's always been my dream(since I was a kid) to create comics...

Because writing novels is too hard and I love seeing my ideas played out in pretty pictures. :v

My current project 'The Herald's Soul' was originally intended to be in a written format, but after I developed a renewed interest in animated shows/movies, comics, and digital art a few years ago, I realized how cool visual mediums are and what a fun challenge it is to make my characters visually expressive and dynamic and convey my ideas without relying so much on words (my writing style is very descriptive and wordy).

Pretty quickly discovered through trial-and-error that animation was way too much work and you can't really create a long-running animated show working solo from home during free time between work and school.. (didn't stop me from trying though lol. That did NOT last long). So, a comic it was!

There are opportunity costs associated with any medium, but comics are super fun to create and have allowed me to combine my loves for writing and art. Now if only I could find a way to fit my music in there...

I think I'll always be a writer at heart, but there's no reason I can't do both!
