Why do you post your novels?

I post it here for fun mostly. Greer's adventures just sorta turned into a thing with some folks I wrote a fan fiction of their works for. It was liked by them and it sorta blew up from there.

i posted my novel rough draft for feedback before its revised and printed. im new to creative writing so i felt like itd be more helpful than to only have it read by my own eyes.

I began posting here because I had a story I'd begun writing for myself (sounds cliche, but I really had a story I created I wasn't comfortable sharing, but wanted "down on paper"). The more I wrote, the more I toyed with sharing my story with someone. I just didn't have family or friends that I wanted to share with, since I don't like sharing my stories with people I know well.
I eventually wrote enough that I was happy with and decided to try posting it online just to share it. I posted on Wattpad and got hardly any response, so I moved to A03. Then I started getting some readers. I also received some nice comments, which I think really boosted my morale. It made me realize that maybe I just wanted to be able to share my story and have feedback from an actual reader. Then I ended up posting to Tapas
I like posting on Tapas, mainly because I love the community. The forum has been fun and helpful, and I also have way more subs and response than I had on even A03.
I've learned that I should probably work on creating a schedule where I release weekly. I've also learned that research and editing your work is pretty smart before posting. People catch things you wouldn't even realize. I had a medical mistake in one of mine and was able to update it from a medically smart comment lol. I really need to just edit my work in general... something I've been meaning to do.
But I have found that novel feedback has been positive and fun.

It's a mix of things for me.

Accountability is one. If I know there are people waiting for the next installment, I'm more likely to actually work on releasing it.

Ease is another. Posting on a site like Tapas takes slightly less effort than putting together an ebook with an isbn and a cover, and making a pdf and full cover for the print version...

Also, this format feels low risk to me. Not sure why. Maybe it's because I'm only posting a little at a time?

I haven't gotten much feedback here yet, but I just started posting this past Friday. lol Hearing what people think is good, but you have to be strong enough to keep true to your vision while also acknowledging your faults. Take everything with a grain of salt.

Writing is art, and I believe that art is created to help people see the world differently. Sometimes, it helps just the creator, and sometimes that's enough, but if the creator shares their art, that art can then help others.

I say, if you have a story you want to put out in the world, do it! It could be the story someone out there has been wanting and waiting for.

I started writing the series I'm putting up now on Tapas during NaNoWriMo 2007 (no, that's not a typo). While I was in the process of finishing my draft, in 2008, I got pregnant with a baby daughter. That October, she was born dead. For the next few years, I worked on the series for therapy, more than for love of writing. It was my way of getting my emotions out when they felt unsafe to express to other people. Understandably, the books took a much darker turn than I'd originally planned. But writing really did help.

I'm posting now, I think, because I'm healthy enough to do it. I associate this work with my daughter even though it isn't about her, so it's been very hard to share. After depression, therapy, etc. I've learned that people connect with you best, and most deeply, when you open up, share your struggles, and make yourself vulnerable. We're all going through something.

What do I hope to get out of it? That connection with others, I believe.

I think, for the most part, I can only echo what everyone wrote already: Getting an audience, having people read and comment so I'm not creating in a void and get some feedback.

And *cough* money? Honestly, am I the only one who thought of this? I want to go at least part-time with writing in the future so having at least some financial return is important for me too.
The other stuff ties into that though: I do publish the stories as ebooks and paperbacks as well but I just don't have that feeling of community there that I get with posting it online and hardly ever get feedback if I don't directly ask for it. So it's really a bit of both for me.

I post because you can't grow as a writer without feed back and even having just one or two readers can motivate you to meet deadlines which is a good skill to have if you want to do it professionally.

No one else is going to write it, no one else is going to upload it. Gotta do the work yourself.

I bounce around sites to just see how the readership and traffic is. If the site's dead and I hate the UI, there's no reason to keep uploading to it.

Summary

The only exception is devART for me - it's where I started and it's where all of my stories are. In terms of keeping the schedule feature going so I'm not just uploading everything in one day on Tapas, it'd likely take me three years to upload everything "finished" that I've written. I see no point really uploading stories I dislike / don't plan on continuing at this moment onto Tapas. That's just upsetting to any readers I may get.

I really started writing for fun. I had made these stories that I had liked, but I didn't know if other people would like them. So, I started posting on Tapas and other sites to see what people think. So... I guess my answer would be feedback and experience. I want to be able to write a story that eventually gets published, so I want to take what I learn from these other stories and comments so that I can improve.

My novel started as a short story when I took one of my first creative writing classes in college and it just expanded upon that. I used it for my senior capstone and made storyboards and character sheets for the version it was then. After I graduated, I completely gutted some things and added more characters and decided that I was going to full on write it out as a web novel! I spent a few months working it before I started publishing and I'm so happy I did. I write it for myself and post it so that other people can see it and hopefully one day I'll have some people who love my story and characters just as I do~

To me its for building my audience. I do both the art and writing for my novel-in-the-making, and I figured if I ever want to publish this book I need that audience too. Building it together, make them see my progress, get inticed by the art THAT is what makes it worthwhile for me. It helps me build my brand, my name, and gain the increasing fame to my setting. I get the feedback, and I get people that love what I am doing and heck, I am even making new friends.

That is wholesome to me.

I have the usual "great!" or "amazing!" but no real feedback. So, i keep trying.

thinking about it, maybe it's for attention? I love getting feedback, comments, votes, etc. I love to engage with people. I get excited when I write because I want to see people's reactions after I post it. That sounds so bad and egoistical, I dunno, but truthfully, that's what appeared in my mind.

In other words, I write to stand up for stigmatized and marginalized groups, especially those which I am also a member of. Fiction has the power to move hearts and minds, so by sharing our stories, we show the world that it's OK to be different.
