What kind of building make good artist's colony? Me was thinking medium-sized apartment building based on Ancient Roman insula. Have roof terrace, airshaft, and inner courtyard with garden, playground, and exercise facilities. Ground floor am devoted to businesses and communal area. Have small grocery store, laundry, and storage facility. Have cafeteria, common kitchen, lounge, and conference room.

This is something my husband have talked about doing and we’ve been saving up to buy a big suitable building. We have a lot of friends who draw comics who would benefit from having a cheap or free place to stay while they work through a big project. We have a list of folks who are interested in it! I was actually just looking for a suitable space last night.

If it doesn't have a personal bathroom in every room (toilet + shower), I am not going xD I'm so not missing the kind of dorm without any privacy

It's not bad, but the ceiling is tooooo low :grimacing: I mean, I am of average height of 165 cm, but even my husband won't fit there :sweat_smile:And you cannot jump, or put your hands in the air...how should a girl make her burpees? :joy:

It not necessarily gonna be sewer pipe. Just roughly that amount of floor space. Tiny shower and toilet. Space for hot plate. Combined working and sleeping area. Like with capsule hotel, building have large common spaces for exercise and general hanging-out.

As for husband, that what storage locker, er, second unit am for. Dunno. Mebbe some apartments could be bigger to accommodate children and pets.

Having a room mate already stress me out, being surrounded by multiple people I would only go if you pay me instead of me paying rent at least then the money can bring me small amounts of happiness.

If it come to pass we make sure lawyers got everyone's back. Building am gonna be separate legal entity from artist's colony. Can't lose apartment just because art boss was being a jerk that day.

Nope, artists can be fucking weirdos, i've had too many bad experiences befriending some back in art school. I'm not even the artsy fartsy illustrator work from home type, I do video and animation lol

I'm completely lost. What's artist colony? Is that like a frat house for artists or something? Pardon me for being uncultured lol.

Either way, if I had my choice, my partner and I both want to build a woodsy cottage someday with a library and moss garden. He's a writer and I'm a visual artist, I think it would be a wonderful place to hunker down and get inspired. And also a wonderful place to store our array of terrifying giant lizards.

An art colony2 or artists' colony is a place where creative practitioners live and interact with one another. Artists are often invited or selected through a formal process, for a residency from a few weeks to over a year. Beginning with the early 20th century models, such as MacDowell Colony and Yaddo, hundreds of modern-day artist colonies now offer the benefit of time, space, and collaborative time away from the usual workaday world. . . .

NYC famously expensive though. That probably why if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.

Here Big Mac cost $2.92 and movie ticket cost $3.95. When me was paying rent, $108.68 a month was enough to get studio apartment in middle of capital city, good for small family.

The place from wiki's photo Artist houses in Montsalvat near Melbourne, Australia sure looks great, like a place where I can live and drink my beer tea, and grow some plants too, hehe  Maybe even feeling myself one with nature, inspired by different cultures :beers:

If me had my choice, there be cottages too. And recreations of pop-culture house like treehouse from Adventure Time and Lakeview Manor from Skyrim.
