Would you let a company adapt your story badly if they paid you

For me this really depends on the story. If it's one I really don't care about, there's a chance I'd let them, however, if it was one that I'd spent a lot of time and hard work on, I wouldn't let someone adapt it. It also depends on how "badly" someone adapts it--is it the casting that doesn't fit? Is it the flow of the story that's off/did they just randomly take out a bunch of the plot? That kind of thing. It all really just depends.

I am not sure actually I am torn if people will just remember how bad it is.. wait are we talking about a live action film or an anime, because if its an anime I'll be like hell ya but if its live action a part of me wants to see how bad this train wreck will be while laughing at the adaption in the background.

But in all sir-use if its going to be adapted badly I would say no. Money is nice and all but in the long run I have to much respect to let someone els ruin my story, I can do that myself thank you varry much.

When you have a passion project that you've spent years developing, no amount of money could sway you. There are plenty of other professions out there if money was the only end goal

My story is already hated by a lot of people, so they can't make it too much worse! I'll take the money, assuming they handle all the legal issues over it being fanfiction. I'll use it to commission more illustrations for the original version

For me, I don't think I would want to let a company make a trashy adaptation of my story.
The thought of having a horrible version of your story and where everyone agrees how terrible it is, which in turns makes everyone hate your story makes me shiver lol!
The quality of the work is very important to consider, even if the money is very promising!

Like, for instance, it was their original idea, but it was SOOO similar to yours, they had to ask for rights so they wouldn't be sued. BUT- you don't like their similar concept.

People always say the book was better which would make people appreciate the original more after checking it out

No, I'm not twisting the scenario. When I say "makes everyone hate your story", I literally mean everyone hating your story. I wasn't branching into people ending up hating an individual, a significant other, your pets, etc lol. If something like that were to happen, that would be very unreasonable on the readers/viewers part!

If people are gonna see a terrible version of your story, and they hate it, they're gonna hate that story. And I said it makes me shiver because for me personally, what i create is very personal to me haha

And also I'm not really sure what point you are trying to make because I am just stating a personal opinion of how I would feel about creating a trashy adaptation of my story in exchange for good money and pretty much nothing else besides that.

But! If you could or would like to elaborate bit more, I would really appreciate it ^o^
