The protagonist doesn't have powers to begin with but other characters around him who he will have to compete with do have powers and in the story there are 10 artifacts or relics that everyone is trying to gather and which ever team or person gathers them first will be the next in line to rule the world basically. So the story revolves around the Hero out doing people that are overpowered, showcasing that a person without powers can possibly defeat people that do have powers. Showcasing another thing as well that it's not having powers that makes a person awesome, instead it's their character that makes them awesome. it's not the powers that's awesome bro, it's just you.
