Kai Future's early form takes heavy inspiration from a familiar green headed nerd in a popular Japanese manga/anime. But as he grows, he ends up separating from that character branch. At first, he was a character I've been forging for years, and considering that he's now in one of his best forms, I decided to use him as the MC for Let's Go Hero! While developing the second arc, I realized he was still a teenager, and I should probably make it seem so. What about you guys?

Alicia Palmero basically self inserted herself as a character (meaning I didn't sit down an design her intentionally, she appeared as a pretty developed/defined character) as did most of the characters from "Damsel in the Red Dress" but they also developed themselves more and more over time, piece by piece.

While I wouldn't say she was based off of any character or person, she has lots of traits from people I know, and things I've experienced myself. Especially in really emotionally sensitive scenes (like "Lurid") it doesn't feel like it would have been able to be written properly if I didn't draw from my own experiences to write the story with genuine emotion.

Alicia is a poor Hispanic girl who struggled to have her basic needs provided for as a teenager, as am I. But she also still worked to pursue her dreams, despite having limited resources and serious depression, which was again, inspired by myself.

The emotions she feels in the first chapter are my own after my first award ceremony, so that part was a direct inspiration.

Since the character's mental health struggle is a huge part of the story, I decided to use my own poetry inspired way of expressing these feelings as the way she narrates her life. She's a painter, and I'm all about describing vivid visuals in my poetry so it ties together well. Many other details, like her social anxiety, and introverted nature are based off of my own family, and the things that they've told me about being an introvert, or living with social anxiety. And the way she teases her best friend is just the way me and my siblings talk to each other.

Mostly, I just think of traits I want them to have and how I want their appearance to reflect that, or how I want to hint at future plot points and twists. Then I get to sketching! It's my favorite part, lol. For their appearance, I try to think of what kind of person they are and what role they have in the story and world they live in. My current story is a fantasy that takes place in a sorta alternate Victorian era with magic and knights, so I took some inspiration from the fashion of the time.

In regard to personality, I again consider what their role in the story is and how their circumstances and past might shape who they are. For my current main character I thought about his privileged upbringing, his dream-seeing abilities, and the way society treats people with that particular gift. He ended up being someone with good intentions, but who cares more about what needs to be done than how to get things done. He can be kind, but manipulative and clever, but stubborn and trusts very few people.

Honestly, character creation is one of the parts I like most about the process.

My characters all pop up in my head and develop through the story.
It´s not seperated from the story writing process.

That was something I did from the beginning, I created my first MC
in the 80s, I knew how he looks like and how he behaved. His behavior
changed through the daily comics and got more extreme.
He didn´t smoke in the beginning and was a chain smoker later on e.g.

Baul started as a reaction to my favorite manga "oh, My Goddess." I wanted to tell a story of what would happen if you had a supernatural creature bound to you that you got romantically involved with. I didn't want the normal trope of the guy being shy/introvert/loser as most manga comics made the lead in these types of stories. I also didn't want Baul to be "good". I wanted her to be literally the meaning of the word evil. This would contrast with Gavin, the male that is bound to her. I wanted Gavin to be a normal 20 something with a job, friends, etc. Everything had to be normal, other than one fantastic element of the story. Then drop in a creature, a creature that has no problems killing people. A creature that can't be "saved" or that has a heart of gold deep down. As I worked out the story beats I had to add Isador (her twin sister) to add to the story, and then the factions. I didn't want a slice of life comics, I wanted a story with a beginning, middle, and end. So I came up with a theme (loneliness) and came up with the 5 books to tell this story. Baul"s name simple comes from a play on words for the title "Little Ball of Hate".

Hugo was originally a Homestuck Oc for an mspfa that fell through. His name, design, and a few aspects of his personality came from me trying my damn hardest to be original while sticking with the Homestuck character format. Then, I just changed everything that connected him to Homestuck, and boom. An original character.

Kid originally started cause of a roleplay, and he was basically just an excuse for me to do the absolute stupidest most morally abhorrent things I could. Think beginner dnd player misunderstanding what Chaotic Evil means. After the RP unceremoniously dried up cause of my bullshit, I developed Kid into a better character. By that I mean I removed all the cocaine jokes and that he no longer has access to firearms.

I usually have two characters as MC's, multiple POV. In the current serial, Yuki and Tatara are drag queens in Tokyo who perform at a small drag bar. Yuki is more quiet and shy, introverted. He's a music nerd with a particular love for old jazz. His drag queen persona reflects this, and he sits at the piano in drag playing for other queens as they sing on stage at the bar. He's pretty masculine when not in costume. He's an excellent cook and loves to be at home where he feels safe. He's uniquely prone to illnesses such as getting a stomach bug or the flu. Tatara is definitely more extroverted, making friends easily. He is a fantastic singer and dancer and isn't shy about it. He's had a long career as a drag queen, and owns the bar. When Tatara enters the room, it's as if it suddenly lights up. However, he is pretty clumsy and innocent seeming when out of costume. Despite being 8 years older than Yuki, he often gives Yuki the vibe that he needs to be protected and looked after. He's definitely quite a feminine guy, which scares Yuki at times since Japan can be pretty conservative about that. I created them, because I long for a relationship like theirs. I'm definitely Yuki in ways, but also a hopeless romantic like Tatara. I'm a musician, so writing about their music parts comes naturally. I'm a dancer, so I know what's in Tatara's head. It's easy.

I needed a depressed female lead that has the " Welp life sucks just go with it" attitude so I made her. Inspired by Maomao from the Apocthacy Diaries. But unlike Maomao Chea is quite confused if she's Chea of Maria
Also green is one of my favourite colours.

I got two MCs...

One literally from a pun...

Fryer chicken -> Friar Chicken

And a fast-food icon...

KFC - > TFC (Tryon/Tennessee Fried Chicken)

so...Yep...

I created Claudita when I was a lonely incel in school in desperate need of a waifu
