I would classify my writing style as “casual” and it actually makes me really happy when people refer to my writing as such. I want my story to come across in a really relatable way, so I try not to err into formal wording. Pretty much, I wouldn’t want it to sound weird if it were read aloud
I think everything I read influences my writing style to a certain extent. Sometimes in a positive way, sometimes in a negative way. I like being able to read something and say “whoa, I felt that in my soul” and then try to recreate that feeling (more so than any specific wording) in my writing. On the flip side, sometimes I’ll read something and go but if I enjoy the storyline, I try to figure out which part of the style or wording was a turnoff for me. Either way, it’s influencing me.
I don’t think I necessarily have a style I’m aspiring for? I mean, I really enjoy writing in my casual style. So I guess I’d like to work on getting better at it. Figuring out better ways of delivering my story while staying true to my tone
I’ve definitely developed my writing style most by (shockingly) writing! Especially on a whole story because it “forces” me to keep the tone throughout the entire thing. But then I reread the first few chapters and realize how drastically I’ve improved by chapter 40. Keeping myself on task with the storyline and really thinking hard about character analysis and motivation has been helpful, too. I think my writing comes easier with all of that figured out ahead of time - I can focus more on writing my story instead of trying to think about if the character would do something or not.
Apparently my writing style is also to ramble on for several paragraphs
