Writers, what influence your writing style?

That sounds inspirational, I'd say. I personally barely thought of having internal and external conflict going side by side. I barely even thought of internal conflicts ahah. But, to be able to incorporate character's dynamic to a story is cool. You have quite a solid style, that's really amazing!

Right! Writing scripts really affect your writing style... in my case, in a bad way. I stopped writing short stories years ago, though I had quite a decent writing style. In high school, I wrote several short movie scripts. Now, my writing style is closer to how someone write a script which is... boring, ngl.

Writing poetically is also my aspiration too! Seeing all those writers making poetic description and wise dialogues really makes me wish I can write like them. Though, I heard that some writers think their own work is shit because they have been writing+rereading it multiple times to the point of boring.

Your answer definitely shows your writing style! It's poetic even now, it's really calming to read ngl. I'm glad you're finally comfortable in a poetic style, because, hell, I wish I could write such poetic sentences! I myself actually aspire on writing in a more poetic, descriptive way; but I guess being writing more casual and simple isn't so bad at all.

Cool! Being able to adapt your style for different genres is amazing! Do you write those story at the same time? If you do, does your style sometimes mix with each other?

In seriousness, same~ I'm super underwriter now because it, and part of me is vaguely okay with it. But then look at these Artistés™ with their prose and I immediately hear sad trombones in the back of my mind lol. And perhaps! I overthink like crazy, so I wouldn't put it past me.

I never had any formal writing training beyond, y'know, regular school so I learned to write by reading and so I reckon the biggest influences on my style would be my favourite authors I've had my current novel described as being like Steven Erikson's work, who wrote one of my all-time favourite series so there's some basis to that theory I reckon!

Thank you! I wrote the romance novel at the same time as a few of the short scifi stories. Hmm sometimes when I switch between writing project, the style might carry over. But re-reading previous chapters help me regain the state of mind needed for that story.

Ahahah true! When writing, I'd think "damn this good" even though it's mediocre at best. But then I'd read other writer's stories, I lost the self-esteem I never have. But, well! You're right! We still can grow if we try!

Cool! You're really talented! Though I wonder, have you ever come across moments where, although you've re-read prev chaps, you still can't grasp the novel's tone? Because I can't help but imagine you're accidentally writing a romance in a thriller tone

Ah I'm not that talented, but thank you for your kind words!
Lolol I find it easier to write thrillers, so if anything, it's more that I find myself writing the romance in a "fast,cold" way. Normally, I take a step back and immerse myself in the whole setting before trying it out again. I slow my thought process down so I'm not jumping ahead past the emotional parts and question myself at every instance, "What is the person feeling?" and "How are they reacting?"

Ohh, I see. When I'm writing several projects at once, I love to do it at the same time and the tone becomes indistinguishable at the end of the day, so maybe I'd take that as an advice for the time I'm writing several books at once lol

In terms of writing definitely Charles Bukowski, in drawing there are many artists who have inspired me, from Otto Dix to Frank Miller.

Oh, cool, a poet! I'm curious, though, between them, who do you feel influencing your style the most? The writer's style, or the artist's style?

My writing style comes from either reading books or watching other medias for inspiration. My style does come off as episodic and it's probably because when I was a child, I did wanted to be a TV show writer. So my older works used to be written in crappy script form. I switched back to writing in narrative writing when I got a little older. My writing still comes off episodic slightly.

I'm kinda confused with what you mean by episodic? Does that mean like a movie script where it is straightforward with no idioms and such, or how you end each chapter with cliffhanger like some kind of film episode?
