I have a story I really want to tell, but Ive tried drawing it and I dont feel confident enough to share the drawings, but i still want to start working on telling the story. Ive thought about writing it as a novel first and then making it into a comic later, but I dont know if it would still work since there will be more detail and information in the novel than the comic. The comic part will either come along when Im confident enough in my own drawing or I can fins another artist that wants to draw it. I would love some feedback on if you think it would still be worth it to start the novel or just wait for the comic.

what I've done when doing cross-media things is pen things to the medium. Whenever you adapt something like a novel to a comic... you're going to have to rewrite much of it. Its almost not worth doing. By all means plan out your story ahead of time and find a part of it that might make a good comic... and make sure its self contained enough to stand as a good story on its own. That way people have the option to read both by don't feel required to.

When I first came up with the idea it was for a comic, and I was able to do really basic storyboarding for it, but I couldn't get much past that, that I was actually happy with. But I like what you mean, that's a really good idea. Thanks a bunch, I never would've thought of it that way.

I actually did the opposite. I wrote the webcomic "Rock and Rhun" then decided I needed to practice my art more. I finished the first arc.

But I liked the story so much that I went back and wrote it as a novel "The Turbulent March". The webcomic has much less writing in it, but it made for a really nice outline for the novel. Naturally I had to flesh out the dialogue and descriptions more in the novel.

And I was able to use the comic for a few illustrations in the novel.

Thanks for the input, I'm really looking forward to start working on it. And I think in the long run it will be better since i keep coming up with more things that I want to add to the story and there's only so much I can fit into a comic.

i'm actually doing that. Making my story as a novel and making a comic a later date. And i'm still working on medibang paint pro which is the program i really recommend if you want to draw online comics. The only problem is XD i'm taking my sweet as time with it because i'm busy with other projects and my novel as well. But if you still want to make a novel and comic version of your story then i'd say go for it.

Why not do both if you really like the story? You could write it as a short story or novella first and share that to get feedback while you improve your drawing skills.

They are different mediums. Some parts of the story might work better graphically. Interior thoughts usually work better in novel form.

It's been 3 years since I started working on my manga and I always wanted to make a comicbook out of it. Unfortunately, in the beginning, I had to stick to the script and just write out whatever came to mind, because I was pretty bad at drawing .

I had no plans of drawing it whasoever in the near future, but here I am now, creating full manga pages for it!

I practiced a whole year before working on it, but it was totally worth it!

Just take your time, think about what you really want to do about your story, and practice a lot. I had to randomly draw faces and bodies of my characters almost every day, so I could reach the artstyle I wanted.

Here's the difference (A year ago):

Now:

Remember to always do your best and try the most you can! You'll never feel confident enough, I tell you, you can only get better with time.

Btw here's a link to the series, if you'd like to check it out . You'll notice the artstyle improving from time to time.

I can sorta relate. Our group was originally going to do "Silver Crest" as a webcomic, but then our artist had to drop out just as we were getting started. So, we decided to turn it into a novel. Surprisingly, it worked out better! Eventually we still want to do it as a comic series, but for now........
