So I've been listening to a Course Module on Business Strategy where they discussed a topic that made me think "Hey! I can use that with my writing!" and I thought I'd share.
Edward De Bono’s 6 Thinking Hats method provides an opportunity or process for different perspectives or ways of thinking (whether as a group or individual) to critique an idea, be creative and bold, as well as be honest and realistic.
- Blue (Management): Define the idea and set the outline.
- White (Facts & Data): Understand the concept, its purpose, and who it will serve.
- Yellow (Positivity & Value): Assess what is great about it and the benefits it could bring.
- Red (Emotion): Determine your own, and users’, feelings & reactions.
- Black (Negativity & Risk): Assess issues, flaws, and drawbacks. (Do not overuse the black hat)
- Green (Creativity): Explore what can be improved, reiterated, and determine the need for fresh ideas.
- back to Blue (Management): Refinement & Way Forward.
You can switch the blue hat to Planning and/or Process instead of Management.
Time to put your thinking caps on
