And if you are... where will you go?

The reason I'm asking is because there was a tweet that people who pay $8 every month will have their tweets... seen? Which is really messed up since if you don't pay it'll be suppressed by the algorithm (https://twitter.com/somebadideas/status/15888764659151667217).

That and the checkmark thing just seems too shady.

I was going to advertise on Twitter, but now I guess I might have to look elsewhere.

I'm looking into Mastodon and Pillowfort. I have a Tumblr I could always go back to as well.... I guess I'll see where people end up.

People are mentioning DeviantArt but I'm like "Oh God, I dunno if I can re-attempt that one". Pillowfort for me.

I’m honestly looking for a good social media platform that doesn’t become a radioactive dumpster fire like twitter was.

I have fond memories of Deviantart, but it'd definitely be one for just casually hanging out with other artists, I would be amazed if it became an effective place to promote, given that it wasn't even really that over a decade ago at its peak!

the new takeover at twit is a mess and apparently the rollout is like...mass forcing of twitter blue for visibility sake but honestly i'm a damn brat so the site will have to be utterly unusable before i go leaving anytime soon

as for other platforms i'm sticking to tumblr like i've been doing as cleaning up my tiktok i guess

instagram is just not for me and i cannot go back to deviantart, nostalgia for the old days or not, especially since post eclipse it's nothing like it used to be

twitter's been my main platform for years now and my main source of clients so like yeah they can pry it from my cold dead hands. plus i just can't see giving in to mass hysteria before changes start actually happening. if it means i'm like the orchestra playing on the sinking titanic then so be it

i think the only other "new" platforms i've been dipping my toes into are artfol and inkblot tho artfol being mobile only means i rarely post (tho its community is undeniably great) and inblot's been a lil difficult for me to use either by choice of browser, my laptop sucks or something else (which stinks coz i really wanna use it :cry_02:)

it's almost funny coz even tho i'm still young my brain can't help but be like "we're too old for this" and i mean i'd say that's far coz all this platform hopping is tiring :sweat_01:

Thankfully, Twitter was never my "main" platform to begin with, so if plans to make it a paid service turn out to be true, I won't have too many problems jumping ship. That said, those definitely sound like horrible news for folks who DO use Twitter as their main platform :cry_02:

Anyway, so far I guess I'll be sticking with Instagram, TikTok and Pillowfort. I also kinda sorta revived my Tumblr after they FINALLY added some filtering options, brought back (some) adult content and gave us the option to make posts non-rebloggable. Still on the fence about making it my main platform again, though. Pillowfort remains my favorite as far as content filtering and blocking options go.

If anyone wants any Pillowfort invites, btw, just let me know! I have, like... 46 of them

I can't get into Twitter for the love of me, and the only thing I would regret would be losing all my favorite nsfw artists gathered in one place  so I probably won't drop it unless it becomes payed or everyone I follow abandoning it. I am mostly active on Instagram anyway, so I will see where this is going and if the "new" platform whatever isn't would be won't be another TilTok, but somewhere I can just upload art to, I will go there.

I'm mostly on Twitter to watch the dumpster fire. The site has been having issues for years and I don't think this new direction is going to save it.

I also post my art on Instagram and DeviantArt. I stopped posting my art on Tumblr long ago and mostly focused on my fandom blog. I don't know if Tumblr is really worth it, I feel like it is way too focused on niche fandoms.

I also created a SpaceHey, I don't think that site is going to take off but I do like the nostalgic feel of it.

I feel a little too "boomer brained" to get into TikTok.

By the sound of it just buried and good luck growing, since the people willing to pay 8 dollars a month on twitter just for enagement.. are advertisers.

I'll Im not exactly too bothered since my Instagram is where I get more views and likes,, screw it even my tiktok I barely use gets more engagement.

I would be more disappointed since its pretty much the only site I made an account on that allows for NSFW standalone art. And its pretty much where I publish my game development stuff. Sucks, but I guess I can move my game dev stuff to instagram and nsfw stuff to masterdom or something. I already moved my comics like that to itch,io and comic fury where it honestly gets more engagement on both ends

So really its not that big of a loss for me. My only sadness is the artists I follow there, but once they leave, I guess I'll follow wherever they go. But as of now I'll probably just use it to follow those guys and keep up with their stuff.

I was never too active on twitter, so i don't know if it counts as abandoning if i never were there aside from creating an account in the first place

But i'm kinda paying the attention on where the exodus people will go to run away from there XD

just saw a tweet with the linked video here

https://twitter.com/bilvyy/status/15892235751770234892

by the looks of it most of the suppression happening is just going to be relegated to "Search, Replies, Mentions" which kinda sucks so there obviously will be need to be more advertising i guess for the rest of use "normies" but so long as nothing (besides ads) is wrecking the main timeline ("latest tweets" especially) i think it should still be manageable coz you should still be able to see tweets as they happen along with retweets (s'why i try to keep with that bit of advice about bumping your own tweets a lot coz lord knows how much things can be missed as is)

I'm not usually on Twitter, but I'm only there just to lurk and check on some people. I just link and retweet posts time to time. So, I'm not active on Twitter anyway. I got rid and abandon so many Social media accounts in the past. I don't think I would miss Twitter much either, especially how much that place evolved in a not good way.

I'll stick around until all the good people I know is ditching.

I don't know if I'll leave twitter. For me it has to be something natural that makes me move to a different platform. Though I'm already building audiences outside of twitter so if I do ever leave it it'll probably be for the best when the time comes. For now I'm not planning to leave twitter any time soon, not until I'm sure it's worth leaving entirely.

Like people from Facebook just came to Twitter not too long ago so the migration would have to be collectively decided on for people to actually leave Twitter. Either that or I lose interest in the app/site.

No, but I expect it’ll be cratered soon enough, since Mr. Tony Stark IRL is chasing away all the advertisers and blaming everyone but himself for it

I'm gonna miss the fun meme accounts. I think out of all the social media sites, Twitter has some of the craziest accounts.

@nkapit I think at this point the dude is straight up waaaaaaaaaay more clueless than Tony Stark. If I were to compare him to a character it'd probably be something way more pathetic lol.

But hey at least we know that Jeff Bezos (real life Lex Luthor) wanted Twitter and was against Elon buying it. One more thing he won't have.

Yeah, reading through here and seeing people go 'I'll see where my favourite artists go' makes me wonder if everyone else is thinking the same thing and waiting to see where everyone else would go so everyone waits for everyone else and everyone would just end up staying put :'D

I've yet to find one that didn't demand you treat it as a second job. And since that second job is bringing in user data for tech companies to hand out to advertisers and governments I greatly despise the whole thing.

The real angering thing is that as far as most of the planet is concerned social media is the internet and doesn't care about the negatives. So you're stuck with it if you want any hope of finding anyone to see and appreciate your work.

Sure, I'll take your charity.

I honestly don't know what the big issue is since it doesn't say that you'll be automatically doomed if you don't pay money, just that your chances will be slightly, better? According to a bunch of people with verified accounts? As if unverified people don't have others following them or those who personally check their walls?

Maybe is because I'm the type of having several accounts as once and instead of managing them like their own individual thing, I just feel satisfied with the summed up numbers or maybe it is that I give each platform a different use. I personally rather cover more ground and just call it a day

  • Facebook is mostly my spamming place, several groups I'm in and where I self promote whenever I make new artwork, a new update of the series I work for and so on. I've got my account blocked some time ago, and after filling my data and stuff I don't get reported anymore for "suspicious activity" or similar.
  • Twitter is good for when I want to know a tiny bit of gossips, engage with the vtuber community, seek commissions or simply shitpost silly doodles.
  • Tumblr is not that good for original content for me, but boy I'm an unhinged rotten fangirl there, it does better when you do fan content.
  • Instagram ain't bad so far, managed to prevent bots from annoying me in my own posts and while people don't comment I can see my stuff is seen most of the time.
  • Discord Servers are mostly dead but still, another place to throw work in process, engage a bit, share updates of webcomics or commissions.
  • This forum and the Faneo one (Spanish platform for webcomics), kinda similar to Discord Servers.
  • From time to time I oupload videos to TikTok, personally I don't care much about it and just post whenever I feel like it.
  • Twitch and Youtube are mostly used for recording in real time my drawing process, which kind of works as promotion meanwhile I could somehow offer engagement via communication through the chat. It'll do better with a mic but that kind of drives me off.
  • I think I may go back and try to reactivate my FurAffinity account, after all, it is not exclusive to furry content.

Meanwhile for DeviantART... I personally don't think I'll be reviving that one, in my personal experience, I ran out of engagement in 2015 (I've been there in 2009 with other accounts) and ever since I just moved to other places, also posting wise is a bit more uncomfortable than the other ones.
