Regarding my game of Kill Sector late last week, things looked really bleak there for a time. Our characters were hired to protect the carnival from murderous gangs who like to randomly attack. The third player was a no show, so it was just my character (Rocky the Rock) and my partner (a minotaur surfer). Rocky cannot move nor speak, but he's a good tank, and he has a trait where he can fool NPCs into thinking that he is a full character who thinks and fights.
This system uses a d100, and in my first six or so rolls, I didn't roll above 20. When I rolled my natural 1, I became vulnerable to damage against which my character is normally immune.
We were surrounded and outnumbered by this gang which is more like brainwashed sideshow freaks. We cannot run because we are surrounded (and because my character is a rock). My tank-character was down to 1 hit point for the second time. The minotaur is a heavy hitter, good against bosses but not mobs. At this point, the minotaur is trying to take down some bad guys with him before we're both killed.
Suddenly, the third player logged into the voice chat. His character was (his description, not mine) "Deadpool with a Venom symbiote, and he's also a Transformer." At this point, I'm just going with it.
Deadpool distracts enough of the goons that we live for another round. He's literally pulling freaks off the minotaur one at a time with Venom webs.
I declare that Rocky is going to use a fear attack in an attempt to frighten them and make them back up enough for us to maneuver. I finally roll a 70. It turns out that I stumbled upon this gang's weakness; they share a flaw in which they must respect the strangest and most terrifying thing on the battlefield. All of the freaks stopped fighting us and kneeled before Rocky.
I might just retire Rocky after this. He survived two games which is almost impossible in Kill Sector. He has an admirable 1-1-0 record for win/ties/loses. Maybe I'll just leave his legend intact.
