Your very first comic

I really love taking a look at my very first comik (attempts) and drown in nostalgia.

So there is legend I was already making comics at the age of 7 or what, and my dad still hides proves somewhere. I remeber they were stories about childreen getting tricked into doing naughty things and getting punished for their parents therefore. I have no Idea what that says about me as a person and I don´´t really wanna know either. Let´s say I loved questioning authority at a young age already.
Also, nobody in these comics had noses, from no angel.

The first epic I did was after a the first book I wrote, and believe me, I was proud of every page and every word I wrote. It was all a big mess and I jumped from Idea to Idea and style to style, but am proud to say that I reached over 80 pages before I quit.

You might have noticed that the whole comic is in german for I did not speak Englisch at the time (I was to lazy to learn it)

I tried redrawing all of this in 2015 and even went up to page 25 in a short period of time untill I quit again and decided to start an comic that I would be able to finish first. That´s more or less where I am today.

What did your first comic attempts look like? I mentioned that a lot of people (includning me) started out with manga....is that true for many? Maybe it was just my generation tough.

God, I had a lot of them over the years. I don't think I got any online right now. Which is good, because I don't want anyone to see the actual comics. Too much embarrassment.

I did a lot of gag-a-day type stuff from late elementary school to early middle school with, like, animals and stuff.

Wolfaboo phase (late middle school and early high school) I tried other more serious comics but I don't think I exceeded 20 pages on any and I never showed anybody.

High school, I tried a pokemon fan comic, but I didn't get very far. Which is probably good because it was trash.

Now, I got My Friends in Distantland. I think I've gotten a lot better at both writing and drawing, so I'm a lot less embarrassed now.

I didn't draw any manga or read any when I was in high school. They were starting to become "more" popular/mainstream in the US, but I was already leaving high school, so I had other things to distract me. I drew some strips in high school, but my first real attempt at a comic (as an adult) was about a cat named Gak-Face

And before my current comic, I did some strips based on my cat Marbles, who has the nick name Big bad Keety and was trying for years to get another idea called 12off the ground... here's a character concept for it.

So cats are my go to comic idea I guess!

The majority of my old comics have been destroyed, thrown away over the decades. What few I do have left, will never see the light of day.

I had my comics up the internet but nowadays they´re all hidden - it just doesn´t make sense or is enjoyable at all
Your newest comic looks pretty good now. Seems like you returned to the animals in some way ...also are there some Alice in Wonderland influences?

to be honest the character concept looks really good and stylish, too! Wouldn´t mind to see more of him, too.

Oh yes. A lot of influences. I really like those classic stories from the 1800s- early 1900s and I wanted to make a story like those.

I got into the comic drawing hobby late, so i'd say my truly first comic was made when I was in high-school for a project around maybe 5 years ago. I don't have any longer and it was only 2 pages but the basic story was that there was a dragon rider that was on a quest for revenge to slay a huge hydra like creature for burning down their village long ago. It was done in paper and colored with crayola color pencils. It really wasn't my best work.

Ok, bear with me here. I wrote novels and then drew illustrations for them for YEARS AND YEARS, because I knew I wanted to tell stories but I liked to draw. I actually HATED writing novels. They were the worst. But I'd never heard of comic books (let alone graphic novels) before, so I just… kept drawing little illustrated novels.

CUT TO: Three years ago. A random librarian gave me a copy of the Baby Sitter's Club graphic novels, and the second I opened it I knew I was never writing a novel again. I think like a week after checking out the BSC I started writing my first comic, which was about murder and angsty teenagers. Here's the first two pages hahah!

I wish I still had them with me, but years ago (I'm talking 4th and 5th grade) I used to make printer paper comics about a gigantic, anthropomorphic pickle. Yeah, far stretch from what I'm doing now.
At the time I was heavily influenced by the wacky Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network shows playing at the time so most of these 8 page adventures, probably in a series of 10 or so comics, that were mostly wacky nonsensical shenanigans.
I'll go through some of my old stuff and see if I can find any surviving comics I can scan and show off here. Used to get in trouble a lot for doing these during class so it might be worth it to go back and find some

My first actual legitimate comic was some shitty zelda fanfic I made when I was 12 that I deleted forever. I do still have on me some old booklet I drew a story in when I was 9. It's the closest thing to a comic that I have since all my other comics are long gone.

It starts with lady bug caught in the rain and runs into a nearby drain pipe for cover.

They accidentally fall into the sewer system and find their way into an abandoned arcade which has been turned into an insect city. The lady bug crawls into a pinball machine that serves as a restaurant and accidentally breaks their leg walking around.

A mosquito waiter patches them up and shows them around the bug city. Meanwhile it cuts to some children outside who serve as a the villain trying to capture bugs who keep running away. They break into the arcade expecting there to be more inside and try to catch the rest of the insects.

They capture the mosquito and suddenly the story just breaks down. The ladybug flies off to a hotel in the middle of their friend being captured, sleeps there for who knows how long then wakes up and then remembers they have to rescue their friend. Then returns and their friend is pissed and the ladybug acts like a dick telling them "what's your problem?"

It ends with the ladybug back at home finding a present from the mosquito with a photo of the two with "best friends forever" written on it.

Happy ending I guess?

The first comics that I ever drew were a series of comic strips of anthropomorphic reptile children which were influenced by comic strips like "Peanuts" & "Calvin & Hobbes" and some random comic pages with no set story that were influenced by manga/anime. I drew these while I was in middle school which was 1998-1999 (I was between 12-14 during that time). I don't think I have the strips or the pages anymore because my mom didn't like all of that "clutter" in the house and made me get rid of them and I didn't have a scanner for me to save them on a computer during that time.

Gosh my very first comics were made when I was in the first grade (Heavily influenced by Mighty Mouse and Calvin and Hobbs). The first legitimate comic I sat down and drew that wasn't a 'gag-a-day' format finished out at (literally) one thousand pages. I'm not joking, I've numbered every page. I started it when I was 9 and ended it when I was 13. It was some horrible wannabe-anime mishmash nightmare that pulled inspiration (and plots) from every TV show I watched over that period. XD I put all the pages in page sleeves to immortalize that which embarrasses me to this day. After that I co-wrote and illustrated a series of comics with one of my best friends, each of which totaled more than 100 pages but were never finished. (We kept making new concepts instead of finishing our old ones)

Hmm, my first attempt at comics was not... very good (By my own standards as of currently >.>), and it actually started with a bunch of one page oneshots

The first is of an OC character I made for Adventure Time, Vinnessa also known as Vinn, she was Finn's twin sister split at birth. The character it'self was made just because I like AT and adding a twin sister that Finn never knew about would have been a cool idea back then. (This was before I had a drawing tablet)

The rest of my comics were Naruto Doujinshi's of the NaruSaku shipping, even after the series is over I ship these two characters and have a side comic I'm working on here and there but I have since abandon everything having too do with cannon Naruto since it just makes me angry to see it.

The first being a not so proportional, varying art style, failing to copy Kishimoto's, comic called "True Feelings"

The second being a bit better in the artistic department and in full color (Although be it cheesy AF, so cheesy it's embaressing to even put up xD) called "Caught in Her Trap", and yes I know the word trap is used a lot >.>

And last but not least my first "long" running series (About 11 pages) of my LZM (Light Zone Master) OC dropping into the Naruto Universe to "alter" the events of the story for a happy ending called "The Confession". (First 2 pages)

Looking back on these I've come a LONG way in the 4 years I've drawing digitally, and I hope to continue to grow and get better at my comics/art
