It's nice that they wanna do this - but it's not gonna do much when the list is buried and no one barely sees it unless they scroll for ages.

I just want this to be here twice, because this sums up all of my feelings so well. I like Tapas, I like my readers, but I don't like spending time here if the platform is not transparent about the amount of effort they're putting into paid vs. free content. Or novels vs. comics.

Seems counterproductive as that would be a direct competitor to Wattpad and Wattpad really doesn't like those. Wattpad is also the biggest novel serialisation site currently so trying to establish a novel section on Webtoons while the same company already owns Wattpad... Nah. It wouldn't make sense. …

@darthmongoose I completely agree with this assessment. And I wanna add onto this as well: Novels are... Where? I'm honestly doubting where novels come into all of this, and with Tapas in general. We've got one list where we can hope to get on, five of which spots are free-to-read novels and five…

Because she's hot. I mean, speaking for myself, she's tall and hot. There's not really that much more to it. I like big ladies. This article outlines what 'incel' means and what the community believes. It should answer questions like "why is there contempt towards them" and how it even got st…

Yeeeaaahhh vamp lady has mostly been claimed by all the sapphics on my twitter timeline :joy: There is a rise in representation of larger women in video games though. Megara from Hades and Ellie from The Last of Us II for example. The other interesting part is that a both of these games are super duper…

I'm also on Wattpad (I think we've run into each other on their old forums?) but Tapas was sort of becoming my priority until some recent changes. The fact that they've buried the one spotlight list for novels on the app kind of... Makes me less interested in the site overall. And the trending lists…

Thanks for the clarification!

I'm really confused what this is supposed to be - or maybe not? But correct me if I'm wrong here. It's supposed to be: A newsletter about the most important news for creators (contests, opportunities, etc.) A SoMe platform to feature community creators. Isn't this... What we already have with t…

Not to mention, the whole thing about "uke" and "seme" assumes all gay men enjoy anal sex. And like... No. This is also an issue because it has become so normal to ask gay men "Are you a top or bottom?" Like @darthmongoose is saying, asking invasive questions about our sexual lives as queer peo…

Hi and welcome to Tapas  I have a dual POV novel with a lesbian narrator being one of them.

No comics, only novels on my end. I just wanted to join this thread

@Shaz Hahahah that one was awesome! It's also interesting you read the narrator as male - since she's actually female and Dy is her GF  Absolutely loved your take - especially because it appears very different from mine, which is much simpler. And changing the tense and POV really does something too…

What a coincidence. I too drew a panel from @junokiller's comic  original panel [image] My version [image]

Okay, and that's alright.

Honestly man, just trying to have some fun. You don't have to participate, but considering my novels are freely available on Tapas I'm not particularly scared of a snippet being plagiarised on this particular forum. If you are, that's cool. You don't have to post anything.

If you're afraid of plagiarism, you don't have to participate

So the comic artists have this really fun thread where you can redraw other artists' panels, and I thought it'd be fun to make a novel version where you rewrite someone else's snippet from their story in your style - and then you post a snippet from your own novel for the next person to rewrite. …

What I've seen and experienced, the best thing is to get shout-outs from authors in your genre. (This is obviously anecdotal so take it with a grain of salt) But yeah, network with authors who write the same thing as you, and start promoting each other. Share readers with each other. Network wit…

Listen, if someone comes to try and poach you, it usually means it's a scam. Most large platforms won't have to do poaching as they get enough pitches sent their way. (Like Tapas, Radish and Wattpad) Though Radish does sometimes reach out to people if they want to try out new genres - so if Radish r…

Oh hey, I've got this one!

@uselessgoddess Oh never compare your work to other's if it doesn't inspire you to improve your craft and it bums you out. It's not the same because you wrote/created it. That doesn't make it worse, it just makes it different. There is nothing wrong with high standards, but the most important thin…

Yep! I've had two novels featured so far and both are not PG13. (Includes sexual content and violence) One starts with a NSFW chapter - the other has one... maybe four chapters in? I think it depends on how explicit something is and like @joannekwan mentioned that the story doesn't revolve around …

Oh yeah, I used to the same - until I started actually looking into how books are sold. It's often "Hunger Games meets Pride and Prejudice!" or something like that. And when you read it, you can see how the work was inspired by both and are actually a mash-up. And if I was a person who enjoyed both,…

Having similar work to something else can actually work in your benefit! They can be what is called comp-titles or "comparable titles" which can be great for pitching your work to publishers (also often required) or serialisation platforms, like Tapas! Tropes are beloved. Plots are redone and reus…

Also consider rush-fees. A lot have those. So if you're hiring someone and expect the product to be finished within either a couple of weeks or even days, some put in extra fees as they'd have to push other obligations aside to work on your project.

@Sir_Snickerdoodles For lower pay, you'll also have to expect lower quality. Most professionals put in the time they're paid for, so if you're low-balling them, they most likely won't put in their best efforts or go above and beyond to satisfy you as a customer. The good ol' "You get what you pay…

And for writers getting approached by what may seem like professionals: Writers Beware is an archive of scammy editors, agents, publishers, contests, etc. Has a lot of great resources. And as a general advice: If someone approaches you, google them. Chances are, someone out there has writte…
