here's my two cents on some of these recent comics inn this thread. I hope they help! And good luck everyone on continuing your comics! @Lucius I think your faces and expressions are cool, and some of your panels have cool effects! I especially like page 12 with the no/yes bit. However, I got quit…

Although I do get ideas from most things (especially when I should be doing something else) by far i get most of my ideas reading history! And not just for historical stories (which I mean, I do do a lot of but anyway), but just as inspiration for anything, from costumes to folk legends to culture t…

cute designs!! the first thing that came to mind (idk why) was 1 Tinker 2 Tailor (he even has a lil cloak!) 3 Soldier (and then if there's a new character introduced it can be Spy B)))

For me its 100% pacing. A scene which would normally take a minute to read on the page takes six months to publish on site and its just not fast enough, and getting that sweet spot of 'what's important and what's the best way to show that' with a ""controlled"" pace is my biggest problem.

Hey! I've read through the chapter and subscribed, I'm interested to see where this all goes. Anyway here's my two cents: Art: I love your line variation! Your art is all very clear, I don't think there was anywhere which tripped me up and made me have to work out the order of panels. Plus, action…

“You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.” Jack London.

imo, its an unfair comparison. Writing encompasses so much: the story, the characters, the pacing, the tone, dialogue. Art is mainly important in conveying what is happening and sometimes what to feel (I've read some comics which have intentionally emotionless art though, and rely on the writing and…

tbh I think watching/reading things, I lean towards a happy ending, its satisfying to end it where it feels like it should end without dragging out, and theres always a bit of wish fufillment. But, like a lot of people have said, bittersweet endings can be painfully effective! My personal favourite …

Reiterating what the others have said, its a really charming comic so far! The style fits with the tone, and its nicely paced so far. I've subbed just because its so sweet! The problem is, I don't think right now is the time to ask for critiques, there's only a single episode so I can't comment too …

aaaa I love how much effort you've put into each page! The backgrounds are really nice and detailed, the characters are in interesting poses, you've got loads of full body shots, and even clothing with patterns!! I love just how much attention has been given to making it look so detailed, and I thin…

I think AnnaLandin and heterodont have responded really well to your concerns, and so as not to sound like a parrot and keep repeating what they've already effectively said, I'lll just offer some advice. Mainly to not judge your success by your subscriber count. I know its painful to not see the num…

I don't use it too often, but Edelweiss' tagline is 'our song is freedom, love, and life'. Its a lyric from one of the folk songs the group (the Edelweiss Pirates) my comic is based on used to sing. It sort of encompasses that whole tone I want to go for, it kinda reminds me of those modern day song…

As everyone's said, context and character! For example, in my comic the only really big swearer is a kid whose trying to be really edgy so drops in swears left right and centre just to show how much of an edgelord they are. It can come down to just how much your character would do so and what tone y…

Ahh for Edelweiss I was, pretty obviously, inspired by history! I remember learning about the Edelweiss Pirates (the groups my comics inspired by) and hearing how they weren't rebelling just bc of political beliefs, but just because they were selfish kids and for some reason it really stuck with me?…

ahh well i have a site for Edelweiss but its still very much of a wip. I mean, the comic part of the site works okay but with everything else its a bit unsynched (eg the bg w the cast page)/missing. I use wordpress and comicpress, and havent really modified the code at all! it seems you can do most …

[image] ahh I hope you don't mind i experimented a bit with my style while drawing him!! aaand my character is my comics protag [image]

I don't think its too dark, I can still see whats going on, but sometimes its a bit tricky. I think you've got a nice way of showing the dark environment (its very atmospheric and pretty!!), but sometimes your characters blend in a little too much into the darkness, its sometimes hard to tell where …

awww man I'm gonna make sure to check all these comics out, they all look so awesome! Its great to see more hist fic comics!! My comic, Edelweiss, is set in 1940s Germany, and all about a group of youth resistance fighters, who may or may not be just doing it for the fun of it (at least initially)…

Like loads of people have said, I don't think theres one definitive way to be a staff pick. I was so lucky and grateful for my comic to be picked a while back (before the Tapas app was a thing), but I don't think I can say there was one thing that made me be picked? I definitely wasn't big, I had ab…

I find that titles are a bit of an 'easy to learn, hard to master' topic. I mean, personally I don't think you can have an absolutely terrible title, apart from if its just plain downright copying something or is overly specific and not related (eg something called 'bob's adventures in space for kid…

Aaaa everyone's art is so beautiful!! As for me, I only really paint digitally, but sometimes its fun to work traditionally. I definitely prefer drawing traditionally, but I'm too lazy to scan it all in ahahha. I mainly use solely photoshop: [image]i [image]

My two favourite tips are: - (I learned this when I was like 5 from art attack and its so useful) know your light source, and put shadows accordingly. Not just shading, but a silhouette-esque shadow on the ground/wall, it helps things look more grounded. - Colour Balance adjustments on photoshop!…

I really loved how your comics started! While I may not be able to relate entirely (as I'm not a mother hahah) I really loved how much genuine love I could feel from your comic for you family! There isn't really much for me to comment on story wise, and I must point out there are a few awkwardly wor…

here's mine! Eva, from my story Edelweiss! What makes her unique: She can't fight, she can't outsmart others, her best gift is her charisma.... but she can't tell a convincing lie to anyone, and she usually fumbles her words when speaking. It's only when she can gain anonymity and put her words on p…

Although I think most has been said on good deaths, I'll give my two cents (I feel like I should say I have researched a lot on 20th century wars so... my suggestions may be better suited for action/drama stories?) : Types of deaths not mentioned/not commonly done: -internal organs ruptures from n…

Ahh I really love your comic!! I love all the characters and their introductions, plus your art and expressions are amazing (I'm now subbed) Aaand for some reason this song kept popping up in my head while reading it, I think its because of the 'good mood' vibe I get from it, I hope you'll like it:…

Helloooo, I hope I can give some tips that helped me. So first, I would say if you have a story you want to tell, tell it! A good story with eh art is better than a eh story with great art. Besides, when you're starting off, people will expect your art to be rough. As you carry on, and as you draw …
