Thank you, this clears up a lot!
Don't inactive subscribers count against you, though? I believe that's the way it used to work
I'm not rebooting in the sense of redrawing old work, but I've been gone so long that all my old followers have surely forgotten me if they're even still active. I'm thinking about deleting and recreating a "new" comic to repost everything. Is there any compelling reason not to?
I do always feel so intimidated looking through the mega threads. Here's my 'comic' as well: a series of fantasy illustrations featuring positive affirmations. UPDATES IN ONE HOUR (lol)
Awesome of you to include the links!
Love that myth! But I think you and @SleepingPoppy are right, and I shouldn’t limit myself to just basic, literal interpretations.
Ooh, I really liked Jane Yolen’s dragon trilogy, so I’ll definitely have to check that out. Thanks, nika!
I confess I missed a few updates due to illness, but I’m finally getting treatment and will begin updating again this next Monday
Working on an illustration for the phrase “Be afraid, and then do it anyway”, and I thought I’d like to use a fairy tale or something similar for it. My first thought was Red Riding Hood, but she’s not really afraid in that story. Other ideas are Jack and the Beanstalk or maybe something with the …
Thanks, can't wait to hear what you think
Thank you, that's very nice to hear!
First of all I should clarify that my series is not much of a comic but more a series of illustrations on a theme. I would still love some feedback, especially on things like art, typography, and ability to convey the message appropriately. If you'd like more information on the thought process …
I'm not entirely sure what the point of ko-fi is. Or to put it another way, why not just ask for donations through paypal directly?
It's also just a dumb business move in general. Any kind of mobile game, for example, will tell you the same: small transactions add up. They should be focusing on volume instead of only worrying about the larger transactions. MAYBE they'll see some gain in the short term doing this, but in the long…
I've done a couple of fanart pieces for my Magick Words series. I hope it's ok if I post them here.
Agree with everyone else, basically. It's a business. If people are willing to purchase the product you're providing, that's all the justification you need. That being said, what does everyone think about the direction Patreon says they want to take with only supporting creators that make a lot of…
Technically my name is my real name, but I use my middle name. I started using it as a username everywhere because it's so unusual that it's guaranteed to be available, lol. Except twitter for some reason. I nearly went through an existential crisis when I realized there was already a "rayenae" on t…
I have this problem. I've got a very obsessive personality, so when I get into something it's all I think about night and day. I do have some hobbies outside of art, though, so I think I just need to work on compartmentalizing and forcing myself to think about other stuff when I'm not working on my …
I hope it's ok to do a self-post here, but I'm currently working on a series that's all about positive affirmations and mantras to help with motivation and other issues. I've just started (6th episode goes up Sunday), so don't have a whole lot that apply to work/creativity specifically yet, but I…
It'd be nice if they could at least set it up to send out an auto email or something
As @joannekwan suggested, I've seen some comics where the coloring actually turned me off. The lineart was beautiful, but you could barely tell because it was drowned out in obnoxiously vibrant colors and terrible shading. You should show us some samples of what your artwork looks like colored vs …
Nice! Thanks for sharing the chart especially, it'll come in handy next time I'm looking to get some new markers.
Thanks a lot for making it, I've been going through some rough stuff myself and this thread really helped. Lately I've been kind of depressed and started questioning whether I even really enjoyed doing this or if I really wanted to continue doing it. I found just making myself do it anyway actually …
My comic updates once a week with illustrated positive affirmations/quotes/mantras, so I've decided to do Halloween-ish themed ones for each week in October.
So far I like these: "There's Magic in the air"
"Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly." (Morticia …
I think he needs a magical glow around him to help separate him from the busy background
Here's my very modest list: Started New Series
Posted First Five Pages - So now I feel ok with sharing it
I'm really looking forward to the day I can do 50 pages! I wonder how much my art will have improved in that time.
Wow, I really love what you did with the speech balloons!
This is such a great reply. It's good to keep in mind there might be other ways you can keep "working" and improving that still allow you to rest. Reading is a good way improve your writing skills when you can't actually write. For artists, looking at and studying others' works is also good.
It's sounding to me, after reading this thread, that Social Media is a lot like art. Whether or not you like the project your working on, ultimately shows in the final product. So what I'm taking away from this is that I should rework my social media plan in a way that I can really have fun and enjo…
Just from a quick read it struck me that some of the words used are rather advanced, even for older kids. I don't know how translating them might have affected that, but I think you might want to go through and see if you can change some of the word choice to make it a bit simpler.
