So I'm sick but at the same time I want to keep writing because I don't want to get behind.
I'm wondering what do you do when you're sick. Do you power through it or just take the time off?

Take the time off. If creating something takes your whole self then what good is it when it isn't properly at full capacity? Your health effects your work.

Take the time off for sure. Your health isn't gonna improve if you try to power through it. Not to mention it's going to take a toll on your work as KoreanTacos mentioned, and IMO it's very likely going to be work you're going to want to re-do so it's going to be wasted effort.

If you're worried about missing updates, just say you're under the weather. Readers are going to be understanding.

Take a rest. Your mind isnt going to be at its best if your body isnt.

You should prioritise your health above everything because if you're not healthy then you won't be able to do anything properly.

Edit: Don't forget mental health, people always seem to forget that.

Ask some one to give you something to draw. Then just go for it. Have some music or a show on in the background.

It depends on how sick I am. If I'm really not feeling well, then I won't try to write. I'll read a book instead or read about how to write better.

Take a rest and take care of yourself, but if an epiphany comes. Write it down or put a note.

Relax, watch movies, eat soup. Keep a notebook and pen by if you get an idea, but just relax.

The result is always something terrible when you push yourself to create in such condition. I would say it becomes as weak as you are. So these times I just watch tv, and have a rest. Or think about new scenes, or what would I change in the future scenes of my mangas, etc.

Take the time off. The work you produce will be lower quality, and you risk prolonging your illness or even causing long-term harm to yourself if you really overdo it.

I had an operation last month that affected the muscles around my shoulders, and left me gross and unable to shower properly. I took a couple of weeks off drawing until I had most of my normal movement range (not to mention showering ability) back, and have no regrets. I'm further behind than I'd like to be, but I'm healthy.

Thanks so much guys <3
This really helped me to just put my writing aside for the day and relax which I'm sure is why I'm feeling a bit better today

This is such a great reply. It's good to keep in mind there might be other ways you can keep "working" and improving that still allow you to rest. Reading is a good way improve your writing skills when you can't actually write. For artists, looking at and studying others' works is also good.

Thanks! I always try to learn when I can =)

For me, every moment of the day is precious, so I need to do something with it.

It really depends on how sick I am. If I'm too sick to drag myself to my real job, yet I feel well enough that I can sit up, I'm usually working on my comic. It'll take my mind off how I'm feeling, and if I start to feel really sick I can still go an sleep for a while (thus not going into work).

But if I'm feeling so sick that all I can really do is sleep, then I throw on a movie and pass out to it. My comic can wait. If I were to work on it in that state, I wouldn't be producing any type of work that I'd put out so what's the point?

Welp, got a "sorta" sore throat Saturday night- been fighting through it most of this weekend. Finished off some artwork tonight, so I'm making tomorrow a rest/be lazy day.

I'd switch it up, for me writing connects with my emotions, if I don't feel like it then my writing feels bland... If I'm happy and the scene I'm writing is 'happy' then it's supper!!! So if you're feeling sick try writing something that connects with that, but only if you have the energy to do so! You don't want to actually end up overworking yourself when you're not feeling well.
