I wanted to draw some characters that I won't be able to focus on for a while. Made in MSPaint and terribly resized. [image]

Thank you! I always love that reaction!

This took... so much time. But I'm getting comfortable enough with MSPaint I'm tempted to draw a comic with it. (Vivian and Ginger sharing some afternoon tea.) [image]

I recently purchased the XP Pen Artist 12 Pro tablet and I'm having some difficulties enabling left click as a shortcut. If I try to make one of the shortcut keys left click, it isn't able to hold the left click, rather it counts it as a single click. If I try and use it within something like Mediba…

Testing out a brand new tablet with a pretty demon/witch. [image]

It looks so amazing! Thank you >.<

Nope, just plain old Binary brush.

This seems like a lot of fun! It'll be interesting to see how someone else draws my character. [image] I liked how dynamic your characters pose is! I also love the magical girl feel yet mature character design. [image]

Finally have some time to chill and draw and this is the first thing that comes to mind. The drawing has actually been flipped but I'm not quite sure which way I prefer it yet. edit: added the other way round and now it looks freaky [:shook_01:] [image][image]

Drew this today! My sketches are usually meant to guide the pose and help me keep track of ideas. I try not to mess with the final line art once I get started so any changes midway through are done on the first and only draft, which is why some things have been moved or erased. [image] [image]

@HGohwell I think your point about disclaimers seems to be the best action to take in allowing authors to write about what they want while leaving it up to the audience as to whether they're prepared to digest it. @therosesword As I've stated, it depends on how you want to approach the matter (re…

@therosesword I agree that I used vague wording in my questions, but I wanted them to be open ended. Harmful can mean a variety of things to different people, and I didn't want to constrain the parameters by providing examples. As you say, it's difficult to view these works and determine where imagi…

I see a lot of discussion regarding harmful content within general media, and a few questions continuously come to mind. Is it the responsibility of the author to avoid writing these harmful cliches/stereotypes/plotlines even in the instance there's a large audience for them? Is the audience resp…

I don't think that you're being impatient, and I don't think that your perfectionism is a bad thing. But I do think that you're putting a lot of pressure on yourself to make this story as perfect as can be right from the start. The thing about comics is that they don't always go through stages of …

I don't consider it as special if something is the first ever in media. As a rule, media made by major companies like Disney aren't doing it as a show of support or a sincere desire to increase representation, they're doing it as a cash grab. And while their doing so may have an influence on the rep…

[image] @eyewhiskers First off, your art is amazing! Your characters have a lot of style and personality in their clothing and posture, and your anatomy is perfect <3 I think I can learn a lot about drawing masculine features by looking at your characters. Sharp jaw lines are still tough for me, …

@KRWright @cherrystark I revoke my claim about it being easy to publish on Wattpad - I hadn't realized I was thinking about fan fiction rather than original works. Definitely a mistake on my part. @linaket I agree that the novels can benefit from comic readers. Assuming that they don't go out of …

I agree in that a lot of the problems novels on Tapas face can be attributed to poor representation, and as you've mentioned, there aren't a lot of on-site resources for writers to make use of. I also personally appreciate the variety of content available on Tapas - but I wonder if it wouldn't be he…

It's clear that novels don't do as well as comics on Tapas, partly due to unfair competition - pitting full color comic pages against just words* - and partly because Tapas advertises itself as a comic site so readers come onto Tapas primarily looking for comics. It's also difficult to get readers…

ACTUAL cover for my WIP comic/novel. I like how stark the white on black looks. [image]

I'm generally quick to mark a chapter as mature just to be safe, especially since it's not like that warning ever really stops anyone (usually for language). Mature encompasses a great deal of things, so in the instance that there is something especially disturbing, it's best to add a written warnin…

Especially when they decide to give up and give their characters a personality transplant. Change takes time, it's not possible for them to wake up one day and realize how much of a jerk they've been and instantly stop being heartless.

This actually reminds me of how Killing Stalking does the abusive lover trope 'right'. As in, the possessive love interest is a literal serial killer, and the MC is deranged enough to forgive him after he breaks his legs to keep him from running away (and a plethora of other terrible things). It ex…

It's the trope hack romance writers fall into because they want to portray a disconnected and cold man who grows warmer (more 'human' in some cases) because of true love. It's not bad fundamentally, but there are writers who take it too far and portray their cold bad boys as straight up abusive. Wha…

Saw a fluffy kitty sweater and felt a great need to draw a fluffy bear sweater. [image]

If you're not afraid of others reading your bad writing, go ahead and post it. There's no level of quality that a work has to reach before it can be published, neither do you need to think others might like it. There was a reason you thought it was great while you wrote it, so someone else who is cu…

To clarify, comparing your art to others doesn't always mean comparing your work to artists whose work you consider better. We all have different tastes and varying levels of art quality, so it's easy to abuse comparing your art to 'worse' artists and thinking that your stuff is the best, which can …

@VibrantFox Speech bubbles are actually a bigger problem left-to-right because I subconsciously draw up my panels in a right-to-left format (it's seriously ingrained, it's kind of surprising). Past threads stated that as an issue as well, but thankfully that's not a mistake I tend to make. @MzBun

[:cry_02:] I wish it were that easy
