Barbie movies have played a huge part in my childhood and they made my childhood  I used to sing along with the melodies in those old Barbie films, such as Barbie and the Nutcracker, Rapunzel, Princess and the Pauper, etc. My favourite is Princess and the Pauper  And what about yours? And how did those old school Barbie films make your childhood? Of course, as time proceeds, Barbie films have also changed a lot. At least, the face of Barbie becomes different which sometimes causes me to miss the old Barbie :weary: However, I don't mean any negative view toward the new Barbie (in fact, the animated quality becomes much better), it's just the old Barbie contains my childhood and I simply miss my childhood

Well, I remember I liked the twelve dancing princess, princess and pauper, and some other one about two best friends... I didn't really into them but I do like some of the old movies, but I never get around to watch the newer one.

its not quite what i was into but a family friends kid used to watch them with us i remember enjoying the nutcracker the most but fairytopia and mermadia stand out the most in memory though ive completely forgotten the plot. i probably appreciated the bold colors more than anything when it came to the Barbie movies and the outfits always looked really fun

I had one Barbie doll, and I liked to invent different imaginary adventures for her and play in it, when I was small. But I never really liked Barbie cartoons.

So, my time has finally come.

I too, adored Barbie movies when I was younger. As lame as it might come across, I actually think they were made with a lot of heart, even though you could assume they'd be little more than marketing material. My personal favourite was Barbie as the Island Princess, but Princess and the Pauper, and the Fairytopia series in general are close behind. I am biased, because Island Princess was basically the last Barbie movie I watched before I started growing out of them.

But what I can't ever grasp properly is how the SONGS in these movies have lasted in my head for like, OVER A DECADE, and I actually enjoy them more now than when I was little since I get so much subtext now that I ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND THE LYRICS.

Phew. I'll stop it there, I'll ramble otherwise, but I'm just quite happy that such a seemingly niche topic would get mentioned here of all places. X"DD

@Rueleer  Awwwww!!!! I can feel your passion!!! It's the same here. I still remember the songs and often sing along in my head. The lyrics are meaningful and can really teach children something even beyond their age

I never liked this kind of toys, but I got a Barbie from a friend when I was 10. I actually enjoyed playing with it, maybe not the conventional way. She was given the weirdest diseases with paint etc, and got surgery numerous times, and ultimately an autopsy once I had to admit that the repeated surgeries did not manage to save her.

My other memory with Barbie is one time when I was 8, I was at my cousin's place and used Barbie's clothes to dress Ken, and my aunt got furious and said I was giving my cousin 'bad' ideas. I still don't talk to that aunt, 30 years later. I think it's the only occurrence of bearing exaggerate grudge in my whole life (it's generally not my thing), but I got so shocked as a kid that I'm still shaking with anger writing it down right now.

Once I've tried to dress Ken in Barbie's clothes, too (I suppose I was just curious of how would it look). But no matter how I've tried, I didn't succeed in it, because her clothes was too small for him. :joy:

Yes, they made the sexual dimorphism ridiculously big, so most clothes won't fit. My cousin had a stretchy Barbie dress with an assorted hat, that set fit.

My fave movie was Barbie of Swan Lake, and I think Princess and the Pauper was the last one I watched when I was little. I remember being scared of Nutcracker for whatever reason, so I only watched it once and then the VHS broke bc it was self-recorded and the other movies had been rewinded too often. (I think I watched a few of the newer ones when I was in my later teens while babysitting my younger cousins but I didn't like them very much.)
I was that kid that hated Disney songs so I was quite happy Swan Lake had nice music and no-one was singing. I recently rewatched it and actually the story can still hold up to recent movies and it's not even cringy to watch as an adult. Makes me want to have a remake with better animation or like 2D/3D animation mix.
I had a few barbie dolls, most of them inherited from my mom but I remember that I got the Rapunzel doll. My mom sewed most of the dresses we had, which was kinda cool. Ironically, I often used fabric tissues to dress everyone in togas xD
I also remember naming one of our Kens as "James Blond" because he had a very weird tan and blond hair. He was mostly the weird uncle whenever we played with them.

I watched the movies once or twice as a kid, but not enough to really remember them.
There's one I have a vague memory of, but I can't quite place what it was.

I played with Barbies all the time though! I had some older ones that were my mom's, and a ton of my own. And the accessories...
Oh my gosh, the accessories! I had so many dishes and utensils, I used to spend half my time playing just putting them all in the cupboard of my Barbie Dreamhouse. I used to organize my Barbie fridge, putting all the soda cans on the shelves, putting the fruit in one drawer, the veggies in the other...

I had Shave Me Ken. Does anyone else remember Shave Me Ken? He was a Ken doll who, if his face was wet with warm water, would have a "beard" appear. He came with a little razor that had a sponge on it, and you would dip it in cold water and "shave" him, and the cold water would make the beard disappear. Because what little girl doesn't love the process of shaving grown men?

I also had a potty training Kelly that came with a little toilet, and real, miniature toilet paper. It was weird, and I loved it.

EDIT: Oh my gosh, I just remembered that I had this computer game, Barbie Detective or something. Barbie had to solve a mystery at a... a carnival? Involving a magician, I think. It was so much fun, but I am absolutely horrible as puzzles and patterns, so I sucked at the game. I still loved it though, and played it constantly.

I think I watched a Barbie movie once. Probably. I remember nothing about it.

When I was little, I remember asking my grandma to buy me some Barbie vet set because I wanted the little plastic cat and dog that came with it. I played with that cat and dog so much. I had a little basket of plastic toys that I turned into a ship and sailed across my bedroom carpet. I made a story with them. I think the dog was the main character. I never played with the Barbie.

When I was an older kid, like around 10, we got out some boxes of my old toys to sort through to give away some to charity. There was one huge box that was full of Barbies. Just a big pile of Barbies, in various states of destruction. Some were healthy. Many were twisted into positions that would have made a contortionist proud. Some appeared to have been drawn and quartered. One had all her hair ripped out. I have no memory of any of them.

The longest a Barbie has ever held my attention is when my grandma bought me a computer game called Barbie Movie Studio or something. You could basically make a "movie" using backgrounds and characters from the Barbie franchise. I was shocked to learn that there were apparently more than two people in the Barbie universe. I played with the game for a bit but eventually hit the limitations of the software and moved on.

I guess I was just never a Barbie girl.
