Well, if you’re in for some children’s fantasy I recommend the Five Children and It books by E. Nesbit, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, and the Faraway Tree stories by Enid Blyton. As far as more accessible adult fantasies are concerned, I would perhaps recommend the Spellsinger series by A.D. Foster (even though I haven’t actually read it), The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, King Solomon’s Mines by H. Rider Haggard, The Worm Ouroboros by E.R. Edison, Gormenghast by Mervyn Peake, Lud in the Mist by Hope Mirlees, The Queen Who Flew by Ford Madox Ford, The Golden Pot by ETA Hoffmann, William Morris’ writings and The Rose and the Ring by William Makepeace Thackeray. A lot of them can be found online, free of charge.
I would also recommend epic poems which feature fantastical elements, such as Homer’s Iliad and Virgil’s Aeneid.
