If you are doing it for the money, you should just change direction, now. Watch where the money is going, how to make it, and make it. PERIOD. If you are destined or determined to have your own unique voice or format, just do it and stop thinking of money--do it for the joy of it.
There are plenty of people that haven't gotten a dime from Webtoons that continue to do their comics almost daily! Gay-Sized/Bite-Sized is totally ignored and he has gone for 1.5 years almost daily until he became frustrated, Apricot Cookies goes weekly, but obviously puts daily effort in, and he isn't getting benefits, In Security has had (almost) no help from Webtoons and does daily comics that must take all day to do!
Looking at In Security, they are doing it by honest benefits of regular people--through Patreon--while everyone on the monthly benefit dole are getting hoisted by gatekeepers. The gatekeepers of Webtoons have made an artificial market that will change and rearrange when ad revenue kicks in. The money will then be coming from honest eyes-on-prize marketing through adverts.
The same routine will kick up again once people stop whining.
I've noticed a trend in the last 2 years of webcomics creators. I think it goes something like this...
• Fresh faced and eager-- "ANYONE can do it! I'm way better than these people! Takes no time to draw things!"
• Daunted--"Damn... It takes longer than I thought. HOW THE F DOES THIS PROGRAM WORK??"
• Very Daunted-- "WHY ISN't ANYONE PAYING ATTENTION TO ME?!?"
• Recognized-- "Someone likes my comic! OMG! I have a few subscribers!!"
• Fairly Well Recognized-- "Of course, bitchez! I knew I was great, but why didn't all of you see it immediately?"
• Really Well Recognized-- "DAMN STRAIGHT I'M THE BEST! NOW I'M MAKING MONEY!"
• Run Dry-- "Wait... I have no idea where this story is even going... I just was doing it for fun... what now?"
• Frustrated-- "Where's everyone going?!? I'M STILL AWESOME!! MY MONEY!!"
• Desperate-- "I'M DRAWING GAY-TRANS-FURRY PORN!! LOOKIT MEEEEE! I need the MONEY!!"
• Really Desperate-- "ANTI-TRUMP SPAZOUT-GOOOO!!! I HATE EVERYONE!!"
• Silence Following Dismissive All-Text Post declaring hiatus....
• Rebirth-- "I'm back with another post... and I have a new comic idea"
• Dejection-- "No one cares anymore... there's no money or adulation... sob"
• Death
Unless you work in the Webtoon HQ, and are directing Webtoons, you are a pumped up windbag!!
Please, enlighten us peons as to what WEBTOONS stands for. Tell us, o master! TELL US!
Do you know what is TOTALLY UNFAIR? It's comics that turn out twice a month and expect $1000 all the time, after getting recommended and front-page help every month by Webtoons while people working every day, all day get no attention and get $0.
Unfair is a 2-timer doing a Q&A or scribbly chibi for one entry and a bunch of babbling over a dozen close-up shots to make $1000. Unfair is having an overlord dole out the cash instead of the market and viewership deciding!!
You only think something is fair if you get the lion's share. Get featured!! DONE. Now you know what it feels like to be locked out of revenue, like the other 22,000 comic artists on the site.
Everyone is holding their breath. I'm wondering as well. I assume you will NOT make more than $100 for 100,000 (like old YT pay). You will be lucky to have $100 for 100,000 views. It could be $100 for 200,000 views. Or worse. We can only wait and see.
