Lol I agree with all of the above and I choose to embrace it. Sometimes you have to realize that if you are writing for even just yourself, that is enough of a reason to write.
Some not so feel good stuff.
1. You will one day look back and cringe at your writing.
It is inevitable that one day you will re-read your old writing and you will cringe. It may be something you wrote a year ago or a month ago. At the time, it sounded great in your head, but now it just sounds horrible. Dn't worry about it! We all do it and it is not too late to edit it and make it better.
.. no matter how good you think it is now.
2. your dialogue is unrealistic
No matter how good you are at dialogue, there is always one line or in some cases multiple lines that make you want to gouge out your eyeballs.... The best advice I can give you is read it out loud. Not in your head. Things always sound better in your head. Even better recruit a younger sibling, if they are nice, or a best friend to read through it with you. Even better if the best friend is not a writer or in the writer world, but supports you and loves that you love to write. Because they will have a better perspective on it.
3. you will always find grammatical errors later on
No matter how proficient you are at grammar or spelling, you will always, and I mean always find something that you messed up when you re-read it later. So don't freak out over it. It is not a huge deal! I find errors in books, printed books, all the time and I just keep reading. It is fine and unless it distracts from the book or changes the meaning of a sentence, most people won't notice it either, but when you find them, fix them.
4.There will be days when you publish a new chapter and no-one reads it
Sometimes it is the time and day of the week you published it, sometimes it is just everyone is busy, but there will be days when you get automatic reads and likes and days (or several days in a row) where no one reads it at all.
If your read count on chapter one is really high and then no one reads or likes the next few chapters here are a few causes. Your story is too new and people have yet to discover it. You need to go back to the drawing board on how you are writing... your first chapter will always have wayyyy more views than any other, it is just inevitable. Sometimes it is a sign that you need to work on your story more, and sometimes you just need to give it more time...
5. COVER ART MATTERS!
You may not want to believe it, but the cover of your book is sometimes more important than anything else. You can have an amazing book and bad cover art and not many people will click on it. It is the first hook. You need to work on your cover art. Find a free cover art builder, find an artist friend, or make one yourself, but you need to have great cover art. Next your summary has to be fire. and your first chapter is when people decide if they want to keep reading or not! Remember it and don't forget it!!
6. you will not become an instant success, your book could be the next Harry Potter, but it will take time for people to find it.
TIME is the most important thing on websites like this! It takes time for people to find your book. In the mean time, post on the forums, on social media. Do chapter swaps. Don't be afraid to self promo, but understand that most people on those forums are not looking for new books to read, they might stumble on yours but unless your book is great, the chapter swaps and stuff will not equal more subscribers. You have to work on the book itself for that.
7. Lastly and most importantly, be willing to learn.
Ask for advice and don't be afraid to insist on constructive criticism. If your writing is bad then you need to know it and know how to fix it and grow. People blindly saying it is great will not help you in the long run.
