I love seeing concept art, especially for character designs. You can go as balls to the wall insane explaining the concept, or leave it to our imagination. Only sfw please!
Also, here’s some of mine =]

I forgot to say, but you CAN post the link to your comic, sorry abt that

I made this pic a while back

All of my concept art is spread all over the place and it took me a while to get August right. Some of the first concept art is probably in my sketchbook. Idk where though…

One of the main character of mys comic, Josh Daina.
First one is from May 2023
Second one is from Chapter 7, which was published in January 2024.

Original concept art of Akala

And she actually turned out a little differently:

These are the first drawings I ever did of the Niji gals way back in 2007:

Alrighty, here we go (if I made this too long, I'm sorry!)
Original idea, dated July 2021:

Friar Chicken originally a comedy, cause of the punny title.

Alec Tryon:

Originally not meant to be featured, so I wasn't concerned on drawing him that well. Now he's a main, and to this day it takes time for me to draw him.

Friar, the Chicken (my MC):

The second concept(below) is what I stuck with for a more serious story, rather than a pure comedy. Above is his first headshot as it appears in the comic, which was drawn a little over 3 years ago. This also established the idea of "halo" panels, to denote moments of focus/clrity, or just a headshot. Idk, it ties in with the religious theming.

For the record, I actually wanted to keep the rope and leg wrappings, but I forgot to draw them when I started the comic. I plan to gradually incorporate clothing/accessories on the characters to denote major changes later on.

Bucky and Gallus(right):

Not sure why Bucky's knees faced forwards, but I was trying to capture the dumpy look. He was originally all black, but I added red markings to give him a more distinguished role, as friend to the MC.
Gallus(right) was drawn very large in the beginning, but I shrunk him down, honestly because I drew him from memory, and forgot how big he actually was. His body also looks closer to an actual rooster in later version, and his scrawniness adds to his compensating anger.

Doctor Fowler:

"Plague doctor chicken" was all I was thinking with this. Didn't like his entire face covered, so I designed his real face and simplified the design of his costume - also, note his hat

Bantee(right):

This is a Madrid Aseel, longer legs and taller than most other roosters I've made so far. Done some updated designs, but I am still happy with how he looks, just in a more refined style (you'll see him later)

Chickpea:

Serama Bantam(small breed), Nothing really changed about her design. She's cute enough as she is!

Nixworth(to appear soon):

Hadn't yet drawn this guy in comic, but I know that feather vest of his is gonna be a pain. Slightly overdesigned, but I'll see what I can do...

Gallus(again) and Chantecleer:

Chantecleer, the--Chantecler. Not much changed on him either.

More concept stuff:

The human caretakers, the Tryons:

And, to conclude my stupid-long concept dump:

Sooo here are my first character sketches, it's quite fun to see how much they all changed
This is one of the first pages in a first version (well, second version, but first to be actually started)

Thomas, old design on the left, current on the right

Adelinde used to be a fox spirit, now she's a forest spirit

different characters on the left, only like 3 kept their looks; and Kestrel on the right

different Ellie designs, current on the right; tbh I like the old hairstyle more :see_no_evil:

Early Kestrel (main character) designs

just for the comparison, this is her current design:

I know it’s cringe to post on my own topic, but I found art from when some of them were homestuck ocs, and the first ever “character reference sheet” so I must make everyone else suffer alongside me. Yes the names changed.

I’ll be completely honest, he looks like Koby’s unemployed cousin I’m the image

Here is mine for Psychoborg. I decided to only put Astra and Psychoborg since I made a lot of concept art based on that comic.

My FL through out time. The final stage of my art progression is my partner lol:

First concept vs final design:

The first concept was actually the first time I'd drawn anything in almost 25 years. I was restarting a story (Wild Nights, Hot and Crazy Days) that I had stopped working on in the mid 1990's. I was going to use my art style from the 90's but immediately didn't like it so I redid the characters

my style has completely and utterly pivoted since then now, this is around 2 years old now !

Really old concept characters from my first series in the 1980's, Sam The Shark. This was going to be a spinoff, Sam the Shark as Roboshark along with a few proposed villains.

Obviously a ripoff of Robocop, which was big back then (the movie came out in 1987), but that wasn't the only ripping off that I did. I was a big fan of Archie comics back then, and there was a little known spinoff of Archie called Captain Pureheart (because of course it was), which was Archie as a superhero. I liked the idea, so I wanted to do Sammy as a superhero.

This one never got off the ground. It didn't even get onto the runway. It crashed and burned while taxiing from the hangar.

Which is a shame, really, because I look on this 36 years later and I like the looks of the characters.

Eddie the paddlefish looks like he’s gonna steal my girlfriend, I love him

I just started to work on a new comic, which I am planning for a long time
Here is the old concept art about the heroine:

And new:

Wow, the improvement is palpable. I did like the little hair antennae tho, that might just be me

Thank you  Once I forgot to draw it and felt that maybe I should let it go 🤷‍♀️

Not a story I’m making (yet), but bro evolved like a Pokemon

*The first design, I literally didn’t know how to make armor and I hadn’t set him on fire yet :weary:
*The second one was a little too complicated to draw consistently, and the colors were still a bit all over the place.
*his current design is a lot more confident (and easier to draw) Ignore the fact that he’s picking his nose (his personality also got less mature)
His name is Rigel

First concept ar of these three. They first appeared in chapter two of Endless·Sea
