Am I bad if im an Athiest

So a lot of people (I assume there christan) come and attack me for being athiest. Do I deserve to be told "your going to h**l." Please tell me! It's getting annoying.

Also as someone who has friends who are atheist who came from super religious backgrounds unlike me, best advice don't tell fundies your atheist or fake being religious. They won't give you 10 hour lectures.

@indagold It's just ridiculous! They have the right to bash me for it. But I cant stand up for myself! One of them even told me "JeSuS cAn FiX yOuR aNxIeTy" he would have done so already! No he can't anxiety is a mental disorder! Not a bloody curse! I'm just tired of it!

I'd say even more: whatever you believe and whatever you do, there will always be a moral system, in terms of which you are a bad person. It is inevitable.

I was a believer... long time ago. I've analysed a lot of christian books, as well as participated in a lot of religious discuts. Eventually, I've concluded that argumentation of atheists (or, more precisely, agnostics, close to atheists), sound more more... reasonable. At some point, after thoughtful scrutiny, I had to admit that my belief was fully unfounded and based more on cognitive biases and mistakes, than anything real, so I've dissapointed in the religion.
But no christian from my surroundings never admitted, that I could come to atheism by thoughts and logical reasoning. Instead they call me Judas and the traitor, who was enticed by Devil. That I became atheist just to do bad things, pleasure my vices, etc., etc.
I fully understand why they think so. If they would assume, that one may come to atheism by reasoning, it would shake their own belief. That's one of the reasons, why they prefer to think that atheists are just evil and don't really try to sort things out.

Whoever you're associated with that says those things to you, stay away from them. I used to be christian, I used to have a very christian friend that went to church every Sunday, and they accepted me for deciding to be an atheist, because it was my choice they respected. It's 2019. People that won't respect your choices are not worth any of your time.

@tired_programmer I understand that but calling us "demons" and they we "are going to hell " is NOT a way to convert us. Nor is forcing religion. You can't expect us to accept something like that, not only that but there is so many controversies.

As long as you are not violently antitheist and aggressive to them, they have no right complaining about your beliefs or the lack thereof. Just ignore them.

There will always be people who think they are entitled to condemn you (or advise you against your will) on religious grounds. Don't listen, go your own way.

When they bring in "converting".

It's one thing to help someone experience part of one's religion ( or lack there of) if there is curiosity. It's another when you're trying to shove beliefs down someone's throat.

Intentions be damned, it's rude. I don't care if someone means even the nicest of intentions. If they can't respect where I stand and are constantly trying to "convert" me, I'm outta there.

Funny thing, I'm Catholic. But I just don't care all that much about what other people believe in. I respect people's stands. THAT, and I got my own stuff to worry about.

As @Mangocado said -- you gotta distance yourself from people like that, who are often extremists. Generally, the average person might not agree, but they'll respect your stand and move on.

As long as you yourself aren't shoving athesitsm down someone's throat -- objectively, no, you are NOT a bad person just because of your belief.

I'm sorry you gotta put up with Christians like that.. Quite frankly, I think any Christian that acts like that are the most likely to not end up in heaven, personally. God doesn't really call for his followers to be the judges of where people go in the afterlife, and even if that were the case, I doubt he'd want his people to go about it in such an aggressive way. No one deserves to be told that they're going to hell, no matter what their religious views might be. You're not wrong for believing what you want to believe, that's your decision and your own to make. Anyone telling you otherwise should mind their own business.

I'm a Christian btw we're not all religious extremists, I swear lol no one's got the right to bash you for anything, Christians least of all. I wanna let you know that the people who usually say that Jesus can save you from your anxiety are the same people who've never actually experienced anxiety. It's a lot of pretty words with no substance when they talk like that, so keep away from them and anyone judging you harshly in general. I should also go as far as saying that not every Christian is a good person!

In short, be whatever you wanna be and don't be a jerk about it. It's okay to feel proud of who you are, but don't take anyone down to make yourself feel better, simple as that.

Usually these things are said by not clever people, from my experience. Most of them don't actually think about consequences of their words. They say such a things just to vent their emotions about us; they don't hesitate to insult us just because they are sure in their rightness and think about all of this as a "righteous anger".
It is just special case of fanaticism, mixed with discourteousness.

More civilized and intelligent religious people usually express their thoughts in more intelligent ways. Or they don't express them at all, if they aren't asked and if you don't attack them yourself.

This is so crazy, but unfortunately it does happen often, to hear such things. Growing in a very secular country, with zero strong believers in my close family/friends, I've been very distrustful of believers for a long time because as a child, I was thinking "wait, if its religion that keep them away from bad things, that means they are bad people who are simply prevented from doing bad things by fear of their god. So they are dangerous if by chance they stop believing". I still think it's very odd to think one can't have moral principles if one is not forced by fear to have some.

really no one knows what's correct, those people who tell you that you will go to hell are ignorant of the world around them just like everyone else including me. There's a fundamental problem with the classic Christian vs Atheist debates and that problem is that neither really knows for sure what is correct, they only believe that they themselves or certain others are correct. What those who say "you'll go to hell if you don't do 'X' or do 'Y'" fail to understand is that they aren't the only religion on this earth, they weren't the first religion and obviously won't be the last either.

If there's god/s out there, and they actually cared about being worshipped in a particular manner, or they cared about what we as a species did, they would've cleared out this issue before the dawn of human civilization I'm sure.

One last remark I want to make; I really couldn't give two craps if those of a particular religion think they are doing the right thing by being abusive and attacking you, if you weren't acting in aggression on their religion, they should in turn respect your religion and/or beliefs and not be aggressive to you either, it's basic etiquette. You have your right to believing what you want just like everyone else does.

I have a really good friend who believes strongly in christian religion, and you know what? we never had a fight about religion. Because we know to see the bad and the good sides from both of our religious backgrounds, we just respect each other and it works wonderfully.
People attack you because of religion? let them bark, there's no need to loose time in discussing things face to someone who will always look at you as a lower being. They tell you you'll go in hell? Good thing, Satan probably has a lot of alcohol, whores to care about and babies to eat for you down here. (that's just the kind of answer I give because I like to see their disappointement in me XD)

They way my household raised is was to just never bring our religious beliefs outside of closed doors. It’s always a personal thing for my family and we don’t ever like bringing it up or when other people mention it. So I never experince the opposite backlash of this ie atheist hating christinans, nor to I do the hate atheist thing cause for me and my family personally it’s no ones damn business.

My very short answer is: no.

However, I wouldn't recommend going to strangers on the internet for these kinds of questions...if you're having a potentially life-altering personal dilemma, I'd suggest asking people whose opinions will actually matter to you in the foreseeable future. =/
