'Anime' that isn't from Japan

Has anybody seen or watched any lately?

And I don't mean stuff like Avatar TLA that's just 'kinda-sorta-why-not' anime, I mean stuff that CLEARLY follows traditional anime character design and animation...but coming from companies based in S. Korea, or China, or...other places (A company in Canada has been doing some things, I think?).

It just interests me~. Kinda makes me feel proud in a way...I'm not sure why? Is it just because it signifies that 'anime' as a pop culture element is still spreading? Is it because soon 'anime' will be seen more as a stylistic choice and not as something that belongs exclusively to Japan and the Japanese?? I don't know...

I second Tina's suggestions. Tencent Animations make good stuff, but mostly those two that have been adapted from popular novels.

Chinese anime but 3D, tales of demons and gods. The animations is not good btw. But its 2D anime comics is nice.

Wakfu, it's from France. Oban Star Racers is French-Japanese.

Anime means cartoon in French, anime in Japanese is a borrowed word from the French.
The thing about animation is that a lot of animation is outsourced overseas. The first three seasons of Transformers (G1) and the first season of Teenage Mutant Turtles, the first two seasons of the The REAL Ghostbusters were animated by Toei Studios. Transformers Armada was entirely animated in Japan and dubbed by the Americas. X-Men was animated by a Korean animation studio.
There's also European animated shows that take influence from Japanese animation like Wakfu by the Ankama Productions, and Code Lyoko animated by Moon Scoop Group.

(To complete on 'anime' in French: 'animé' only means 'animated'. The French for cartoon is 'dessin animé' = 'animated drawing'.
When I was growing up, in the 80', we were saying 'manga' instead of 'anime' for the Japanese animations; and when we started using the more proper word, there has been a sort of controversy on how to pronounce it. Most were pronouncing first 'anim', because 'anime' sounds too strange as it's an adjective (imagine calling cartoons "animated"!), but purists insisted for keeping the final 'e'. Others says it's useless to be a purist if the Japanese word is a mistake itself - can one be a Franponese purist?). I rember people could go on that for hours . As far as I know, now it's common to prononce the 'e' but it still sound strange to me. Shows my age haha).

Some other Canadian shows follow the same formula as Japanese anime, like Code Lyoko.
And it's not "animated" in the traditional sense, but it definiately follows the beats: Thunderbolt Fantasy

The term "anime" is just short for "animation" (animeshon). In Japanese, it's a general term for animation. When talking about Disney animation, they can just refer it as Disney no Anime. It's not the only Japanese term that got butchered in English. I can say things like, Hentai, H, or Otaku got same treatment.

Voltron? That was a Japanese anime that got translated in English originally. Looking back on it, the dub is pretty damn funny.

Miraculous Lady-Bug is a French, Korea, and Japanese co-production. Supposedly, there's Toei animated special coming up in the future.

I see people talking about some French animation but there's no mentions of Ulysses 31 or the greatest cartoon to grace French televisions in the early 1980's, The Mysterious Cities of Gold.

True, Voltron "originally" was made in Japan, but the remake that's got everyone screaming at anime cons wasn't made in Japan.
That reminds me The Dragon Prince is likely US made as well - I think people call it a spiritual successor to Avatar TLA?

Yeah the capital of Texas, Austin. Since Rooster teeth has been in Austin for over a decade and producing animation other animation houses have been moving to Austin including Powerhouse that helps Frederator Studios produce Castlevania
