I've always loved storytelling, and that includes folklore, fairytales, and mythology. Greek mythology is a favourite of mine, and I've always wanted to retell a myth. It was only this year that I read up on the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea, which conjured a huge reaction in me. I had so many thoughts and questions about it that I figured I needed to retell and deconstruct it to explore it further, and that's where my comic came from.

To the Touch is a modern retelling of an old love story, and an exploration of an odd relationship dynamic - that of a sculptor and her statue, who has been brought to life.

I'm sure that there must be other comics on Tapas that were inspired by a fairytale or a myth or the like, at least partially, and that sort of thing really interests me. If you think your comic fits the bill, then post a link down below with a description and the story that it inspired its creation. I'm excited to see these!

There is codex black, its based off of ancient Mexican mythology and culture. I didn't make the comic sadly.

I also love retellings, your comic is like the perfect type for me, creative, uncommon art style and one of my favourite Greek stories (especially when it’s done with a modern perspective so we get more character depth for Galatea ^^

I’ll drop mine because the title of this post was the original thing that drew me in, but well done, I’m very excited to read your work.

I’m doing a retelling of one of the most redone fairytales ever, Beauty and the Beast. It was inspired by one of the creepiest versions I’ve ever watched called Panna a Netvor with Slavic origins.

I’d also like to suggest @JemMiltons The Flying Ship, which I’m not sure if it’s inspired by any one Russian fairytale or perhaps an amalgamation of them, but has some very key aspects found in a lot of Russian fairytales and is just absolutely beautiful to look at.

My comic is based on Arthurian Legends, taking place in a world where King Arthur was a real guy with a real magic sword that allowed him to fight off the anglo-saxons. Excalibur being drawn from the stone is the catalyst that starts the story, and there's other British/Celtic folklore in there like fey. It's sort of a "sequel" to the Arthurian myths in a sense.

Both my novel and mini-comic series are loosely based on the Veda legend Vritra, the serpentine dragon that stole the waters from the world before Indra slew him. Because you asked for comics I'll only share my mini-comic series, though my novel is the one expanding on it the most.

My comic is heavly based on the Hexenhammer, also known as the malleus maleficarum, a book that heavily influenced the witch persecution in the past.

It's the reason why one of the main elements of my story exists: a powerful witch, supposed to protect all magical beings of the cruelity of humandkind.

It features many characters that are based on different kind of mythologies (witches, demons and angels of course, but later there will be characters based on all kind of mythos, I looked into different african believes and tried to give more known beings my own spin!)

The story itself follows a fallen angel in the human world, followed by the daughter and her familiar of the curret Greatest Witch.

My comic is called Oi Tales of Bardic Fury and set in Iron Age Ireland. It incorporates Irish mythology and also greek and egyptian mythology in to the story.

My comic book is called Menmar and it is based on One Thousand and One Nights' "The Fisherman and the Djinn" tale, and I also incorporate Persian and Mesopotamic mythology into the story. Please check it out!

Hello! Thank you so much for this thread! My comic is inspired by a multitude of fairy tales and stories such as "The Little Prince," "Alice in Wonderland," "The Little Match Girl," and there will be more! I'm still doing research on other fairy tales from Hans Christian Andersen, the Brother's Grimm, and even Aesop's fables.
