Any other artists in your family?

Nope! But my mom and aunt have taken art classes. I remember my mom's watercolors hanging around the house and an old sketch of me riding a carousel as a kid. I saw them growing up and I guess her art was the first I aspired to meet at the same level.
She doesn't paint or sketch anymore though. She has always been much more of a reader.

At one point and time, almost my entire fam used to draw- it came from my mom. The one picture that I witnessed her draw long ago was beautiful. My oldest brother used to paint as well as draw... but over the years, they all stopped. I was the only one who continued to draw...my fam has always encouraged my artistic side.

@mrjonzap I remember at one time I considered getting into painting and trying to do exhibits & shows. While I appreciate painted works, I just cant do them...

@Shanny8 I was traditionally trained before I went to art school and I can do paintings and what not, but I just choose not to. I feel like that type of art is geared towards the "artistic crowd" and to really make it big you have to have the approval of a couple of art elites (at least that's how it's like here in NYC). That's why I got inclined to illustration because it's a medium that creates art for PEOPLE and everyone can enjoy and see the beauty in it, it is using art for what it was intended to be, something beautiful to be appreciated by the masses, not what is now, an expensive luxury to be owned by the wealthy.

I dont knock the whole gallery scene. It's a little diff here in ATL...I have a few cats who I used to work with at an art supply store , and they're doing pretty good with their careers selling at galleries & shows. My first love has always been comic book art, but on occasion I've ventured outside that realm.

It's cool to hear of so many people coming from artist families!

The only artist in the family that I'm aware of isn't a part of my life anymore. They were (are??) an actually very impressive artist, but I don't draw anything like them. I was always ashamed of showing them my art as a kid and when I was older they briefly popped into my life to tell me that they thought my art was too dark and macabre...? Idfk. I can't say that they inspired me to become an artist or anything, I just went down the same path as them. Honestly I wonder if they're bitter that I kept going when they gave up.

I'm grateful to have a family that's very supportive of my art, even though they're not artists themselves. Aside from my mom, my family's not familiar with my comics, they're really more into my one-off illustrations. My mom doesn't really know what my comic's about, but she's excited for me and asks how it's coming along when we talk which is sweet. :> I always give her copies of my prints and sometimes originals to put around her house.

My mom used to draw a lot as a hobby and my dad made a lot of small knick knacks out of clay when they were both younger - but they both stopped because they had no more time to do so because of their jobs. My sister draws but she majored in avian studies through college, so it's more of a hobby for her.

I'm the only one wanting to do art as a career :y my family is pretty understanding about it, not to mention a lot of my extended family thinks im a good business man and constantly suggests me to do things like tshirts and stuff when its like..naw i'm just nice to people who commission me and usually they come back for more comms.

My brother does cosplay, modeling, writes and draws.

My mom, dad and sis are all musicians. Dad is in a band, knows how to play several instruments and sings. Mom and sis are both vocalists, my sis also writes lyrics.

My older brother is a visual artist and my older sister is a pretty successful Voice Over Actress who's worked on some well known Anime shows/movies as well as video games. You can see some of her credits on her website here :D!

My father is an architect and my mother used to paint with watercolor/oil.

My older sister draws (I'm currently in the process of bullying her into uploading her own comic--she's working on the buffer still), and my mum has mad sketching* and photography skills. And pretty much everyone in my family plays an instrument. So yeah, pretty artsy family!

*Apparently my mum drew a cartoon of my dad while they were first going out, and I really want to see it but none of us know where it is! Gutted.

In a sense, everyone is an artist in their own trade. But if we talk about the traditional view of what makes someone an artist, then I have three in my family. My grandmother and my aunt are both abstract painters, and my sister is in graphic design.

Mom was. My nephew seems to be pretty good at it too.

My father, brother and sister are disinterested, which might as well mean 'no,' since I am a firm believer of gumption over inherent talent when it comes to art.

My mom does paintings from time to time but she is a beginner tho.

My youngest sister likes to sketch and do paintings. She's never taken a class but she is pretty decent. She does like to sing.

My youngest brother used to sketch a lot of silly comics and stuff as a kid but not so much now. He likes comics, and I tell him to draw his own but he has no interest. He does play the piano and other instruments...he sort of shy about preforming tho.

Another sister (younger) does actually draw and has taken some classes as a hobby...she is very casual.

She drew this (I colored it), so she is OK.

My older brothers don't really do art, tho my oldest brother like music mixing. My other younger sister could not draw to save her life. I don't know about my dad...I think he used to paint but that had to be years ago.

One of my cousins used to do cake decorating and she had an "anime" faze, not sure if she still draws tho. Another cousin likes to sing. My grandma also plays the piano and the organ.

Didn't even think about it before, but seeing some of you show your families work made me realize I could have shown mine.
This is the type of stuff my cousin who teaches does, he's awesome, but is still in the process of perfecting his art. He's got a slight romanticist inpired style going on.

This one is from my uncle, who of course is my said cousin's father. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.

I actually look up to my cousin a lot more than his father, since he's one of the very few liberated, and open-minded people in my family. He's also a super art nerd, and I can freely nerd to him when we meet up. (nothing feels more awesome than discussing art techniques, and materials with someone who can understand, and shows just as much interest)

Not in 2D-visual art, no. My mom paints once in a blue moon (like, once every 5 years or so), but she's on the other hand very crafty, and likes sowing and such. But other than that, no, I'm the only artist in my family! Which is statistically interesting, considering how many aunts, uncles, cousins and second cousins I have. ^_^;

They do know of my comics, yes, and are very supportive!

My twin sister is my partner in crime >:B we both draw comics together as a sister team! I've been told that my grandfather from my mum's side was an artist, though I've never seen his work.

It helps a lot having a sibling who's into art too, and even better that she likes to work with you and tell the same stories as you do! My parents are incredibly supportive even if they don't really understand it. My lil' sister sees us as "the cool artist sisters" so that helps a lot with confidence too XD

My sisters are artists, but more in the sense of musical theater and not drawing or painting sort of things.

My mom was in a band back in the hippie days. She used to tell me and my brother how she wanted to be able to draw so badly but never liked what she drew, then she had us and we both drew all the time. My brother's pretty darn good at drawing, oh my goodness. I haven't anything to show from him, but it's much better than what I can do. He can throw down so many different styles, I tell ya what. I got the music gene from our mom though, so it's all good. My drawing probably suffers from putting more time to music.

Cratfs like sewing or painting stuff have been popular among the women in my family. They like to do it as a hobby or for gifts mostly. One of my cousins is a graphic designer and another cousin likes to paint Warhammer figures. As far as I know, I am the only one in all my extended family who does comics and video game art. Besides my graphic design cousin, Im the only one whose career is artistic.
