Any other artists in your family?

My mom and her brothers all wanted to become mangaka when they were younger. They lived in Japan so it made sense since the comic industry was and probably is pretty much as well paid as being a doctor here.

But then her brothers got out of it and she became an accountant. Looks like the dream fell to me.

My mom, grandma, and brother are all artists

My mom's great uncle was a painter called T Roselaerd. He has a couple pieces in a small museum in holland i think. We have a few of his works on his walls.

My dad works in contracting so he does a lot of architectural drafting. My brother use to make masks, my other brother use to paint, my sister draws like i do.

Nope! In fact my family kicked me out of the house for applying to art school! lol

I don't have anyone in my family who lived off of art as a full-time job, but my mother went to art school and can draw very well, and there are lots of other people in my family with 'natural art talent' as in, they have no training, yet can sketch out something better than I can ;_;
I'm surprised so many of you have had trouble with your family concerning art!!
My parents have always been very supportive of my art, and the rest of my family doesn't really know about my art (because of reasons).
Is it really so common for parents to be upset about a child that's an artist if they themselves aren't artists?!

Having gone to an art school, the answer for most of my classmates was yes. A lot of our parents were not happy to see us being artists.

My dad is a musician. His brother, my uncle writes movies. That same uncle's sons, my cousins are a musician and a comic writer respectively. Then on my mom's side two cousins are excellent drawers and both seem to just do it as a hobby.

My older brother did some art when I was a kid. I watched him paint a sun onto his drafting desk when I was really small, but he stopped doing that kind of art. He, like all my other biological brothers, plays an instrument, but I haven't seen him draw since I was a kid.

Aside from my bio siblings, though, my mother does needle point work. I don't know about anyone else (though I'm told I'm distantly related to Robert Lewis Stevenson. I'm taking that with a grain of salt.)

My dad is a professional graphic designer, and he taught me a little bit of the basics of perspective. My sister was also very talented in art since she was young, but she has altogether dropped her doodling ways for a law degree. My younger brother started drawing a little bit ago, but he's more into sports and stuff than being dedicated.

I have a cousin who used to draw when we were younger, but I don't think she does anymore (at least I haven't seen anything by her).

Aside from her, I'm pretty much the only active artist in my entire family (from grandparents to cousins). The rest are either interested in music or sports. ^_^
