If anyone remembers, I asked about an Instagram account called The.Writers.Warmth (@thewriterswarmth) and got my answer confirming exactly what I suspected.

The thread:

Turns out that wasn't the last of them. Not long ago, someone DM'd me. Here's what transpired:

As you can see, I reported them for bullying/harassment and blocked their account.

Has anyone else experienced such intimidation tactics by scammers like these?

I've never personally experienced this, but I think I heard about it happening to a few people. Seems like you handled it well. When dealing with liars, you just have to call their bluff. They can't really do anything to you.

Yeah they're basically trying to SLAPP you (frivolous threats of lawsuits to prevent public participation), I believe in some states in the US it's actually illegal and there are anti-SLAPP laws. You're right that you're allowed to ask for other people's opinions on a company and talking about the possibility of them being a scam and asking for other's experiences isn't defamation (which is what they're indirectly accusing you of).

Unfortunately there are some really unprofessionnal lawyers out there, and shady companies don't tend to employ the gold standard guys. I've personnally seen actually barred lawyers say stuff like this, they're real, just not good. (TwT)

I wouldn't call that a threat, that sounds like a regular Tuesday after receiving some scam messages to boost my socials, get followers or the typical commission scams.

Personally, I would always remind the following:
Paying for "promotion" is meaningless, why?
If you want your content to be out there and reach more people is simply having several social media accounts and share on the communal spaces of that socials (Like discord servers or facebook groups), but despite if you pay or put on your own the content in a new place, is up to the people to actually click on your content.

Then there are the ones that sell you "followers" and "engagement" but we already know that these are bots, they are not real people and in most webcomic platforms to use these bots is actually illegal, is easy to notice mostly when nowadays a series reaches ad rev so easily but when you see the series it has views, not many followers, a random number of likes but almost no comments. Then if the staff gets suspicious at the point of checking the activity of your series and the irregular growth they may block your account and delete your series.

Most of the time I find kind of stupid these people because first is not a service you have been looking for and they can apply for. Attempting to insult you or whatever just exposes even more how fake they are.

Need to tell my mum to stop writing LLB after her name and instead write (Lawyer :woman:‍:scales:️), so much more professional!

This is 100% a scam, and was almost certainly written by thewriter'swarmth themselves. It reads like a kid trying to write formal English based on how they've seen lawyers talk on TV and failing.
