I would guess as you get more and more concentrated, you need more and more "noise" of a certain type to keep you from going into a meltdown or something. Mouths are really sensitive and good at making background sensations for you to ignore (lol). Tension in your brain requires tension in your body unless you've figured out a better way to destress.

When I start to draw I do this thing that creeps people out o-o
I listen to murder documentaries XD I like to listen about murderers , how they commit crimes and all that while I'm drawing.
I'm not a killer but I've always found it fascinating to see how damaged your mind can be if you're willing to kill someone for money or just because you suddenly lost control

Aside from imitating the facial expressions I'm drawing, when I'm listening to music while I draw I tend to sing and dance along with the beat (while sitting). I also talk to myself pointing out mistakes on my own work as I go along.

This is mostly when I do traditional drawing but I tend to rotate my led pencil/pen while I'm using it as I draw.

I chew SO much gum. If I'm really working hard on stuff I just chew piece after piece of gum because I like to spit them out when they lose flavor.

I do the facial expression thing.
My face has the same expression I'm drawing, then I notice what I doing, stop, and do it again.

Other than sharing the habit of sometimes making the same expressions that i'm drawing, sometimes when I'm in the zone I "chew" on my tongue (not actual chewing but making the motion of it which makes sounds and it sorta dries out my mouth) which i don't notice alot of the time, lol.
(unless mom points it out or i eventually notice once i can hear myself, since i usually listen to music while i draw XD)

  1. I stick out my tongue
  2. If I'm in the zone and I'm listening to some good music, I have a tendency to shake my ass in my seat.

-I skype when I draw (or isn't that weird?)
- I stick out my tongue when drawing difficult things.
-I talk to myself and make to pose on my hands how I need make them.
-I play with kneading eraser instead of drawing xD

Good music + I'm liking what I'm drawing... I will actually get up to dance around xD Hard to shake my ass in a swivel chair, I dunno...

In addition to making the faces I'm trying to draw, I will squint at whatever I'm working on. I didn't realize this was a thing until someone else pointed it out to me. In my mind, I'm zooming out and reframing the canvas, but for some reason other people can't tell? haha.

I too do the facial expressions thing. And since some of my main characters have the default expression of "constantly annoyed", I too have to do the perma frown until it hurts my face.

Sometimes, when I listen to music while drawing, I'll just stop drawing and let the music flow over me........ i've wasted too many hours doing that,,,,,,,,

Its seeming more and more that I need to go further into isolation to write. At some point, I'm sure I'll be the scary old hermit at the top of the mountain, except I won't expunge wisdom, just page beats and cobbling together snarky dialogue.

10 days later

I chew the inside of my mouth when I write or draw. I've been trying to avoid pulling funny expressions as I draw but I don't know if that's working, nobody has said anything yet. I know that I frown like I'm going to murder someone if I'm not pulling faces
