Appreciating Traditional Art

I know we live in a digital age where we're so use to drawing on our iPads and tablets, but I wanna take a moment to appreciate traditional art. Once in a while, I will draw something traditionally and practice my anatomy in a sketchpad. I would like to get better at my lineart and Copic markers cause I feel like my coloring is abysmal lol.
So what are your thoughts on traditional art? Feel free to post your work and the supplies you use, I love seeing stuff like that.

I do a lot of my practicing in traditional I think both formats have a ton to give. I use mechanical pencils, ballpoint pens and Tombow brush pens!

Iiiiiiiii.... do everything in traditional art. (I had a brief digital art phase, but it didn't stick.) And 95% of my traditional work is alcohol-based markers, which I've been using heavily for over 15 years. So I'm 1000% on board with the traditional art/markers appreciation, and would love to see more comics done old school.

I guess I had an unfair advantage, though: I worked in an art store for six years, and got a hell of a discount. Plus, every now and then, people hear I use Copics, and they give me their old Copics that they gave up on using. So my marker collection is... adequate.

And here's the cover of chapter one of my comic. This is one of my most recent, and best, pieces. And it's all marker, but for the linework which is microns.

Also, @jkb4753 Holy geez your watercolors! Hats off, that's gorgeous.

Even though I consider digital art to be quicker and more efficient than traditional art, I think I enjoy drawing traditionally more. My go-to tools are HB pencils, fineliners, pentel brush pens and watercolours/gouache. I'm learning how to better use nib pens and promarkers. I guess it depends on the skill of the artist, but I feel that there's a texture to traditional art that's difficult to replicate digitally.

Ooof, that shading is amazing, good job on the linework! The ink just adds to the cozy atmosphere.

My comics are primarily done in traditional media, since I have problems inking with a tablet. Here’s one done on black paper with a white jelly roll and starry sky colours from Kuretake, does anyone else have examples of black paper art?

I can only do traditional! I need the feeling of the paper under my pencil, ya know? Maybe I'll try digital someday, but traditional will always be my first and greatest love.

I prefer traditional over digital, but I very much admire digital artists. I just enjoy feeling the physical roughness of the paper and the inksplots on my hands, feels like I have more control.

I personally use a variety of supplies. Posca pens, markers and steadler fineliners are my favourite supplies tho.

Just to touch on what everybody said, I tried to make the transition to digital art but its like learning a whole new medium. Because it is. Im not interested in learning a new medium right now, I think I'm still trying to get comfortable with the ones I use.

Niiiiiice. I love black-paper art, but I never did much of it, because I could never get it to scan well. (I feel like that's part of why I use markers so much-- they scan better than most color art supplies.) I dig the brushy vs clean effects there.

scanning is one of the banes of my existence. i need a new scanner because my current one is inadequate. thats the downside of traditional art. it never looks as good as it does in real life.

I am extremely uncomfortable in traditional art I am trying to make myself draw something "every year", but you know... rarely happens. This is the last traditional sketch I did this January

And before that I had a fully-traditional Witchtober redraw of all my old 31 witches in... 2019! I guess after 31 ink artworks I just died inside forever lol.

Folks who A) have a hard time scanning art due to paper texture, and B) have access to an image-manipulating program like Photoshop, may appreciate this how-to guide. I found it and thought it was genius.

Another question for folks in this thread -- what are your support supplies? Like, what paper do you use? Are there any neat tools that make your life easier? I mean, just a few months ago, I discovered that Molotow makes a masking pen that works like a paint marker, and it made achieving certain things with my markers Much. Easier.

I love traditional art, feels more authentic and pure in a sense
It tends to have this rougher feel to me that usually shows the amount of mistakes,errors and time it took for the artist to make it.
Digital art tends to seem like a commercial product to me, most look too clean for me to appreciate the effort that goes into it.

Yesss! I am mostly digital these days, but I started traditional and there's just something so satisfying and pleasant about it that I love.
This was the last piece I did, which feels like an eternity ago, but was just last month lol.
