I do this a lot, applying fictional concepts to myself. I'm a huge sucker for RPG alignments.
I'm a Chaotic Neutral, for example.

My partner does it too. For example, the "dere type" concept. I don't like dere types but he applies them to real life all the time.

Do you have any fictional archetype sets you tend to apply in real life?
Do you know what your RPG character alignment is?
Do you know what dere type are you?
Let's talk about this weird personality stuff because I love it.

chaotic good right here! no idea abt my dere type tho.

i tend to think about people through dnd alignments and (moreso in the past) hogwarts houses. im not the best at guessing them though. i have friends that talk a lot abt horoscopes and imbt but honestly, none of that makes sense to me. i still find the snapchat horoscopes funny though.

My rpg alignment is Neutral Good, which pretty much is my real life view.
Most people are never put in a situation where their moral fiber is tested. I have, multiple times and it made me find myself. I now know that if someone is in danger (especially if they are younger than me) i will put myself in harms way to protect them. I will attempt to minimize damages to co-workers (I work in a field that somtimes causes injury and has alot of risk involved). I stand up for what I believe is right even if that means telling someone who is in charge that they are wrong. I don’t care if you’re my boss, I don’t care if you think you are of a socially higher standing then me. If you are causing pain or being disrespectful I will bring you down.

Ironcly I always play healers in rpgs. Physically I am weak but I protect others or wish to heal them (work in the healthcare field). I maybe weak but as stated before I bluff and put myself in harms way. Occasionally it works and the threat backs down. Sometimes it doesn’t and I have been attacked. But despite the fear of knowing that I can get hurt and that I am weak, I will always protect. Battle is about inducrance. I might not be able to knock you out, but I will keep getting up.

RPG alignments can be weirdly deep to be honest...
I've learned I was a Chaotic Neutral due to all the times I have done reckless things for my own self interest... And because of the weirdly strong sense of self preservation I seem to have. Only when things really test you do you notice this stuff.
I am willing to do pretty extreme things for the small circle of people I'm willing to protect, but I've also had to learn that I don't have much in regard to a sense of "greater good". At first this made me a bit sad because I felt like a mean person but when I realized being neutral was a fairly ordinary trait it made me feel better about it.
I've always been super impulsive.
It's crazy how much these simple things can teach us about ourselves.

The greater good is what drives me! Equality and prosperity for all. The equal right and opportunity for everyone to follow their dream. The social responsibility to help those who cannot help themselves.

I have always had the privilege of being fed and having a home, and everyone should have that!

As long as it is for good, I will protect. If it’s a stranger or a close loved on it doesn’t matter.

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

But then I have a self sacrificing nature that I know most people don’t have. Supersizingly most people think I’m a bitch but thats because of the “ neutrality” of not caring about status or ranking, or social group. I tell it how it is no mater what. If you are wrong you are wrong, don’t care if we share a relgion or skin color. Wrong is wrong.

I took an alignment test a long while ago, got lawful neutral I think. Read it has to do with favoring law, rationality and order over everything else and not letting your decisions be dictated by emotions or what others deemed the greater good but also having some sort of morals to follow without devolving into pure evil.

Yeah I feel that fits me. I favor critical thinking over all else even if that means compromising others and I would never martyr myself for others like someone aligned in good. I'm also pretty neutral on things as well. I would never go full jesus mode haha

I am definitely a lawful good person. My day job is a compliance office and manager for a research lab, so being lawful and ethical is really important in my every day life. I also appreciate order and routine in my life and if my day doesn't go as planned down to the minute I get a lot of anxiety.

But I generally RP as a neutral good person, because laws in little towns in D&D are often corrupt and I feel like I can never get anywhere in the game if I have to abide by the rules too much. Every now and then I'll play a lawful evil character-- one of the minion types, and its a lot of fun too.

I've never heard of Dere types.

@punkarsenic, it helps if you think of each astrological sign as pursuing one concept above all others. So, Aries want truth, Taurus wants ownership, Gemini wants freedom, and Cancer wants security. Leo wants respect, Virgo wants perfection, Libra wants harmony, and Scorpio wants satisfaction. Finally, Sagittarius wants adventure, Capricorn wants achievement, Aquarius wants the future, and Pisces wants completion.

You can classify them according to the four classical elements. The fire signs (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius) want experiences, while the earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) want status. The air signs (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius) want concepts, while the water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces) want feelings.

I can go into detail about your sign, if you like.

oh no i like, understand star signs in theory, its more that A: i dont know all my other signs that people talk abt, and never look it up, so most of the time i am Lost and B: i really dont believe in it. im not super against it bc some of my best friends are all abt astrology, its just not something i can get behind.

Just took DnD's test6 and I got neutral neutral. I can see that, I generally am on good behavior but I'm not above doing more under-handed things to people I don't like if I knew for certain I can get away with it without repercussion.

I believe I am a Neutral Good. I am not the type that goes out of the way to make people angry and if I do upset someone I feel really awful about it. However, I think I rebel against social norms enough to not be seen as "Lawful".

I refuse to label myself as a "dere". I just hate the whole concept of them.

Also, despite being a Capricorn, I also have a lot of similarities to a Sagittarius. I am sort of a mix of the two and will read both horiscopes. My moon sign is Taurus...I don't know what that means tho.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but please could you explain further, i'm intrigued.

Well the RPG alignment chart measures a character in A. their conduct and B. their motivation.
E.g. as a Chaotic Neutral, chaotic implies that I have little regard for how things are traditionally done and do things on my own without taking advice or rules from others. Neutral means I don't do things out of goodness, but also not out of spite - I do things based on what I want.
You can take a test to see which one you are, if you're interested.
It comes from table-top RPGs, hence the name.

Dere types are a weird obsession in anime communities (my partner often does it as a joke) but they basically differentiate people based on how they show their feelings. A kuudere might have a cold approach, a deredere is very affectionate and straight-forward, a tsundere is someone who often denies their emotions etc.

The first one is called the alignment system. It has 9 parts and you probably seen memes about it.

Dere is an anime thing. A commonly used one is Tsundere, someone who is tough on the outside but sweet on the inside. And another common one is Yandere, which is sweet on the outside but messed up on the inside. Yandere Simulator is based off of this.

I hope you'll stay open-minded about this, because there really are things at the edges of our understanding.

Me, I went into this a skeptic, but some of it made sense. People did fit the archetypes to one degree or another. That wasn't too wild, the personality traits were fairly consistent, but what really got to me was how they seemed to be tied to people's birthdays. If you know when someone was born you've got a fair chance at guessing their quirks and life goals.

I really don't know why it works. It can't be the influence of the planets, they're too far away to make any difference. I thought it might have to do with an expectant mother's diet or exposure to seasonal weather, but the archetypes hold true across different places and climes.

Maybe human beings actually have a biological caste system, although nothing as dramatic as what ants and termites have. Maybe each fertile period is unique somehow, and that's how we get different kinds of people.

Then again, countries can be classified as Leo or Cancer or whatever based on their "birthdays". I have no idea what's going on there. Are we living in a simulation? Is there a thing like a collective consciousness that's influencing everything? No idea.

i agree there are things at the edge of our understanding - hell, im a universalist pagan. i just think that star signs arent exactly how i wanna understand the world. it feels too much like predestination theology, and i believe your lived experience has a far greater impact on your personality. say, like, if someone has a traumatic experience that totally changes their personality - how does that fit into star signs?

anyway, this is interesting, but lets be careful not to derail this thread

I have a different understanding from most New Age types. I just use the terminology. Anyway, if I'm anything it's a chaos magician. I understand that each of our models of the universe is simply that -- a model of the universe. It can be useful the way a road map is useful, but it can never convey the actual experience of traveling on that road.

What's traumatic to one zodiac sign will not be as traumatic to others. And when the signs experience trauma they tend to crack in predictable ways. Virgos obsess over house chores, Capricorns get a little lost, and so on.

I've always looked at it from a just for fun perspective though some elements I've allowed to inspire me as far as character creation goes. For example, I got the chaotic good alignment in a quiz/test once, which I suppose was somewhat fitting to my personality. The sense of doing things or wanting to do things for the "greater good" has been with me since I was a kid and doing things my own way went along with it. (I actually still remember standing up to a group of bullies in elementary when the teachers hadn't)

That's like after looking into dere types both myself and friends of mine could easily tell I fit into the tsundere type. I hate to admit to it's accuracy but it's a close fitting label luckily it's not so far as my behavior mirrors cliched anime tsuns.

I don't care much for horoscopes/zodiacs but I'll look at a meme if i pass it on my dash. Plus I like to see what I relate to or a character of mine would relate to; since it's my way of trying to flesh out elements of a characters personality (aside from mirroring real life).

I love to explore my inner self. I love to format this in gaming when I spend my whole day working and am exhausted. Even when I travel and I'm so far from home I love to connect like everyday. When I choose my archetypes AND my name I always consult the stars. Its my way to be able put my feet on the ground and not lose track that this is the inner me. in another form. Its still my expressions of who I am, where I am from, Even in my other world I need to succeed.
