Are web comics your job?

No, certainly not. Webcomic is my hobby and I do it for the fun of writing and drawing combine together. I know a lot of people struggle to support their lives only having webcomic/art as their job and I really would advice people not to depend solely only on webcomic to make a living unless you get pay good money that equivalent to your effort that you put in. Art to me can be quite an unstable income. This month you might get a lot of customer, this other month you might not get a lot of audience/visitors/support, it's always good to have a back-up plan and not live day by day worried if you would make enough for this month's bills or not.

P/s: Unless you work in a graphic company/industry, that is a different story lmfao I was thinking more freelancers.

Not really, it's more of a hobby for me than a job but I do like treating it as one! It's been very good at making me disciplined, not to mention helping me work on my art on a consistent basis.

I do eventually want to go into art as a job and maybe one day be capable of freelancing, if my comics make me money on the side via ad revenue then I don't mind it one bit.

I am planning to make comics my main job, through sales, patreon and conventions. Currently I'm not yet there, and I do have a secondary job to pay off bills, but there's a lot of webcomic creators out there that have made webcomics their career!

If you plan to become a comic creator it really just takes patience and a lot of hard work. Any type of business takes at minimum five years to get rolling too so that's another thing to keep in mind

making my web comic is part of my job. At first i was going to make money from it by charging admission to my website. however then a little thing called VATMOSS came along and knocked my plans out of the water. (it was a digital tax that caused all sorts of confusion. however now the UK has decided we have had enough of being bossed around by the EU i don't have to worry too much about that any more)
anyhow as i was saying.. my main job is doing paid commissions so the web comic gets peoples attention Making a living this way is hard work and I dont drive so I also dont have the option to get about easy but I keep fighting to make it and draw some cheer in peoples lives with my caricatures.

It makes up part of my income, but no, it's not my job. Between Patreon and the Tapastic ad-rev, I make around 90-100$ a month on it, which is nothing to be sneezed at, but it's not enough to pay the bills. I'm a freelancing artist, so I'm always looking for work, though.

Does the time you put into your comics pay off for you?

Well, attention I've gotten through my webcomic has landed me a couple of illustration-gigs that have nothing to do with the comic, so yes.

Also, I draw my comic for a love of storytelling, and would do so even if it didn't earn me a red cent. Though the fact that it DOES makes it easier to motivate the fact that I update twice a week. ^_^;

Yes, though because it doesn't pay me enough for bills (the amount I make keeps equalling less and less as methods of payments are lost. Inkblazers income and Tapastic support system having been pretty significant blows to my income) I have to pick up other contracts or commissions. Fortunately my bills are not very high as I am still living at home.

I WISH I could do comics as a full time job. Unfortunately I have a lot of needs and wants, and right now this isnt paying the bills. I hope that I can eventually make a nice supplemental income off doing comics- that way I can stop entertaining the possibility of having to get a part time job just to stay comfy financially.

I have to work a full time job to pay rent and bills, but I'm actually trying to find another job right now with a more consistent schedule so I can actually get into a routine of working on my comic (because I hope for it to eventually become my primary source of income).

But If I chose to live off my comic today, I would live off a cup of spare change the next day.

For now, it's a part-time venture. I try to run it as if it's a second business. My full-time job is in software development.

Since its unlikely that I'll ever be getting a "real job" (whatever the hell that means these days) because of my countries pathetic unemployment rate coupled with the fact that I live in a red state, yeah I guess I could say that webcomics (and being a youtuber, gotta have more than one source of income) is my quote unquote "job".
