For me, no matter how gorgeous the art-style is, story has always been the reader's intention.
If the story is not interesting, they wouldn't be invested in it. It could've succeeded, but that was before not after.
Look at Rob Liefeld's comic on young blood. It sold so many copies it made him the most successful comic maker in the world because his arts-tyle looks awesome back then, it had nothing to do with the story.
Right now, people look back at Rob Liefeld's comics and began disliking it, critiquing it and even one of his colleagues even said in his interviews that he has nothing to offer. Just type down his name on Youtube and you'll get a lot of videos talking about him
Currently, people will now focus on storytelling than the art from now on.
