I can't say for sure but I think the leading theory is that for the Trending and/or Popular lists it takes into consideration some sort of ratio between # of subs vs. # of interaction such that series with only a few subs but high interaction per sub (say you have 30 subs but you're also getting 3 new subs a day and several likes and a few comments) can beat out series with more subs but less interaction per sub (300 subs with the same amount of subs/likes/comments per day).
I believe this is what the OP is referring to? Granted no one knows for sure how much the weight for the ratio works if that's even true.
The other factor to consider though (if this is still the case, it was last year when I was actively publishing on the site)- your series doesn't appear on the App's Fresh upload section until it passes a certain sub threshold and so it becomes a gamble- if you're able to quickly clear that (I can't remember I think it used to be like 25 or something?) then it could be worth trying for that trending/popular algorithm gaming. However if it takes a while to reach that threshold then you may be better off just keeping the existing series since it appears to already be over said threshold (I took a peek, it looks like 51 subs?)
I don't have a strong feeling on which way would be better since I have yet to be in a situation like that... it's tricky for sure
