Oh gosh thank you! XD Well uhh, strangely enough her character got revised a lot, because her initial design missed the mark in terms of storytelling. She looked too human and it made little sense why people immediately imparted judgement on her at first glace. Since I wanted to make it very obvious to the reader that she was a different species, she was given a makeover. XD
As to why she's an armadillo, pangolin... dragon... porcupine thing, it was an alien design I held onto for a long time. I reworked it to fit with her species' quirks because I really just liked the design. Haha! XD
Basically took the Zbrush doodle and made it.... humanoid with some animal-like influences thrown in? There is a point to the final look of the species being an armored mammal dragon, but... ahh, I'll wait for the comic to come out. : >
