That's a lot of assumptions about people responding in this thread, but you are right, BL does seem to be brought into question a lot in these forums, and it's honestly from both people that enjoy and dislike it, it's continuing rise in popularity only going to enforce that discussions keep happening, especially if you have people like me that do like to take part in topics like this because, well we read and or write/draw it ourselves.
To be fair, at least on my part, I read more BL than I do straight romances. I mean come on, it appeals to me, I grew up on straight romances I'm overly joyed that I'm finally finding stuff that makes my preferences seem less obscure or 'wrong', so of course I'm going to run into a lot more and have a lot more material to be picky and choosy over. Especially when my representation I'm finally getting can't stop getting rapped or wanting their just deserved punishment for 'the way they think' sure as hell that is gonna get to me more than romances I can't as easily identify with. (though the straight romances you mentioned actually DID bring up a huge number of shit storms on controversy online, so it's not a 'it's okay if it's not gay' thing with 'em)
That said even though there are titles I like, I can't agree that all BL titles are good JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE BL, and I'm not gonna pretend like crap doesn't exist in the genre, which is does, and honestly drowns out the good stuff and makes the overall genre look bad, as well as fetishises something that is currently trying to be normalize, and in turn, making it harder to normalize.
I don't think BL is inherently bad, I'm just disappointed at the amount I read that end ups being bad. I just want good stuff ya know, with sex that doesn't make me feel objectified.
I also don't think anyone said anything in this thread about it being bad because it was written by women for women?? But maybe I missed that because there are a lot of wall posts in this thread xD and there was a lot more valid arguments than 'shallow fan service for chicks' being thrown about.
