UPDATE

Hello everyone!

The first round of picks are on the main site, with more picks following over the course of multiple weeks! I'm excited to see all of the recommended work on the main site and hope you enjoy it

One additional clarification: We've included additional picks from Tapas creators that aren't on the forums as well. So there will be some surprises!

Thank you!

ORIGINAL POST

Oh hello again!

In our recent post,25 we went over how we select our Staff Picks for comics and novels - now it’s time for YOU to make your own recommendations! We want you to be able to influence what is featured on our site and boost creators who are amazing but have not found as many readers as they should. We all have novels and comics in our reading list that we adore for very special and unique reasons, and we should share them with the Tapas World!

The Community Picks section will be visible on our homepage and on our site, and will feature around 10 picks per week to give them plenty of visibility. For this test we’re looking for around 40 submissions. If successful, we will open this up again in the future.

Provide the following:

  • Link to ONE comic or novel
  • 1 - 2 sentences on why you like it so much

RULES:

  • Novels AND Comics allowed
  • Minimum of 10 episodes and not on hiatus (completed series are okay!)
  • ONE submission per person (additional submissions won’t be reviewed)
  • Submissions shouldn’t contain graphic sex/gore or nudity
  • Don’t submit your own work
  • Submit creations that you’re excited about, that you want to read the moment they post! We’re looking for high quality, which includes great storytelling and artwork/writing!

I will close this thread after ~45 submissions so we are able to review them. We will ensure the submissions match our standards, so don’t be disappointed if not every series makes it.

I’m looking forward to your submissions and also feedback on what we could change for next time!

Have fun!
Ratique

Cool idea! I'll link my friend @nathanKmcwilliams's comic, Dragon Sparking!

It has all the action and fighting scenes you need, and a original main character who in my opinion is a fresh take on the usual shounen protagonist.

This is great!
It's a tough decision, but I think I gotta go with Calliope Magazine.

This collaborative project has both weekly and monthly editions, and I'm always interested to see what they have to say. They have lots of different thing, from updates on the member's stories, to reviews of other creator's stories, to more!

Like this series cause it's looks professionally, great characters desighn, and unusual plot

Only one submission makes this choice so difficult, but hey, I think it's a good idea!

Very very well thought chapters with interesting mysteries that make following the series a super fun process. The characters are very endearing as well and knowing more about them little by little only adds to the experience (had to choose between this one and Errant </3 I chose the one with the least ammount of subs but I hope someone else picks it because it's darn amazing)

There are like more then 5 different works i would like to promote here but... Oh my, this is a hard choice.

I think i will recommend this one from @oshirockingham

The art style is amazing, the story is hilarious and the characters well developed

I really hope this thread will work out fine so we might see more like that in the future and be able to recommend more works ^^

I'm gonna have to give @Mappypaint's University of Speed a plug right here.
It has a cool near future sci-fi vibe, while also having cool cars and a school setting (which I don't normally like but U-Speed is a cool take on that trope. A racing school is too legit.)

But what really stands out for me, is the characters. There's a large ensemble cast, and they all interact together so well. Lots of big personalities. And to boot, it's funny and the comedy is hilarious.

I would like to nominate Smith. Andrew Pilcher's comic revolving around the busy life of a fluffy siamese named Smith even though Smith himself would probably prefer it was a bit less hectic. This creator definitely knows how cats behave (and misbehave)

YESSS. @ratique, would it be alright to suggest a comic that's conveniently returning from hiatus next week, or am I better off saving it for a potential round 2 of this thread? (There's plenty to choose from, but the comic I'm thinking of has been a favorite of mine for a very long time now haha)

I nominate Terra Prima.

Smart science fiction that's not bogged down following popular tropes or fads.

I was having dinner and dropped my fork. Thank you so much for nominating me <3

I nominate Luminous

There's a lot of love for the Magical Girl genre in this series. The artwork is top notch, with a story that understands what the point of the genre is about:

Novel time.
Here is an amazing adventure made by @Larslaustsen who is suffering from dyslexia (word blindness)
But it hasn’t stopped him from telling his story and finding a great team to support him.
There are great art from @Azifri and all the text has been edit by professional.

We are not supposed to post own work and you may find me under the credit for helping with worldbuilding. But it is all I have done. Just at a side note, a super fan that is following a creator. So I hope it is still valid.

Rephaim! The storytelling and artwork is wonderful, I've been reading this comic as soon as it updates for a while now!

There are so many amazing comics to nominate, but I'm going to go with Phantom Reign because it is so cool and deserves it. Plus more people following means more participation and more cool stuff that can happen in it!

Then I'm gonna go ahead and nominate @phen's There's No Such Thing As Jason - I.T. because I am so very, very hyped for chapter 18 starting next Monday. It's a truly mind-bending psychological drama with absolutely phenomenal art that I've been following for a few years now, and it's always high up on my list of recommendations. There's honestly nothing else quite like it.

This sounds like fun. I recommend fridge and bear. Its a black comedy series that I personally found really funny with a very colorful and unique art style that's treat to look at. Very underrated in my opinion.

I totally gotta nominate Endless Night Encore by @LannaEXP ! It's such a charming, witty, funny comic, and i truly love it with all my heart. Every update makes me laugh!

I really enjoy "I'm the Prince's beard" by @Lazuli.
It has some natural flowing storytelling, interesting plot developments and an overall serious/comedic tone balance that I really enjoy. Internal monologues are the highlights for me and are always fun to experience.

Why have none of you nominated me?

Oh wait?

I ONLY HAVE 9 EPISODES.

WAAAAAAAAAA
SHIT

Because other people have less visibility and deserve it more?

I'd like to nominate Mallory Bush by @DavidPerry.

It's a callback to The Lil' Rascals, The Peanuts, and more and then slowly dives into an adventure. While having witty and charming humor, it also hits close to home, reminding us that family is important (whoever that family is to you); it's a very good read, with amazing art, amazing characters, and that special something you can really ever get through a comic.

If short comic strips are allowed then I nominate this one. I like the cute relatively simple art style and it's sometimes relatable/funny

How about Fragments by @Iridescent_Bismuth

The comic is still in early development but the art (Especially the backgrounds) is nice and detailed, the premise seems really neat too. modern fantasy is always a good time!

I wanna recommend Sonia: Legends of Eternal Darkness, it's by a friend of mine but I'm still a big fan.
Hell, I'm not usually a digital reader, but his worldbuilding and atmosphere kept me invested enough to try it out, that's why I feel like it needs to get more noticed.
Even if it doesn't get picked I hope some of you give it a chance.

Oh geez.... I have to pick just one? :cry_02: Argh this is a lot of pressure.

All right, very sorry to all the people I'd like to nominate but can't. If I can only pick one, I choose Hollow by @ninjashira for the professional overall polish, great visual storytelling and combining an enjoyable story with clever deconstruction of nostalgic anime tropes to explore themes of trauma and depression without feeling too heavy. It's just an all-round good comic, and it deserves to be on the front page.

Oh my god, why did I have to go on hiatus right now?? :cry_02: I hope I'll be luckier next time.

For my pick I choose @AbelDraws' FIVE.
I love how endearing and realistic the characters are so far, specially Arckan. You can really tell how much of a bad time he's having by his body language and expressions. Also the main conflict is setting up in a really interesting way, I'm so intrigued to know what will happen next and what the bad guys' plans are!

Gosh, there's way too many things to put just based on what I've subscribed to. Some that are downright awesome, some that are downright insane. If there's any that I'd wanna put down both to help a fellow cartoonist out AND to show my appreciation for their work, I'd have to put my recommendation down to... drum roll

Whistle Stop by @pandtandp2t2

Out of many of the cartoonists here on this website, including me, this guy's always consistent with his world but there's a good ol' tone of charm that hits right at home. I really enjoy his world and characters. The strips, mostly from his main series, have always kept a smile on my face. Not to mention that Sam Squirrel is my literal spirit animal and I don't know whether to feel good about that, or to strap a rabid dog to my chest while I pile drive my face into the windshield of my neighbor's Trans-AM. This guy needs more appreciation for his work, because its something that can bring good tidings and laughter just by being itself. There's something I truly recommend.

Ooof.. The only comic I'd absolutely love to submit for this has a few graphic scenes of gore sparingly used throughout. I'm assuming you guys wouldn't be okay with any gore (or sex/nudity, for that matter) whatsoever appearing on a curated list like this, right?

This novel updates at 2AM and I still always read it as soon as it releases. The characters are delightful and richly developed, and the yearning in the writing style makes me FEEL what the characters are going through! Also a thoughtful and delicate portrayal of complex emotional struggles and personal relationships.

This story won a contest I hosted on the forums! It is amazingly written with a fantastic concept (robot therapist, whew)!

Ma, where do I even begin with this novel? The style is great, the characters are lovable and relatable, the story is AMAZING, and I am just OBSESSED WITH IT! I believe that more people should read Kiss It Better. It deserves all the praise! It's such an amazing book and I am so happy to be saying that I am a big, BIG fan of it!
