I have three main locations that are kinda interchangeable in my stories (aside for one of my comics named DOLLS -- that takes place in fictional Yokohama, Japan.)
Hawley, Maine -- It's a fictional small town out in the middle of nowhere, in Northern Maine. There's only a few main roads that lead into the bigger cities miles away, but the town usually thrives on their corn products. It's modernized, but everyone knows each other. It's completely surrounded by woods, and most people wouldn't dream of going into them after dark.
Duncan Grove, Memphis -- Another fictional small town that's located in southern Memphis, Tennessee. It's just as small as Hawley, if not smaller, and gets income from the steel mills across the way. There are some woods around Duncan, but you'd have to travel a good minute to get to them, and most people aren't looking to go out that far. Sides, the town advise people (young people) to never venture pass the southeast of the town. That's where a lot of abandoned parts are, and they're abandoned for good reason.
Chicago, Illinois -- I can't away from my hometown XD. I have this kinda love for a fictional 1980s Chicago that's subtly an intervention for mobsters and whatnot. Only two of my comics showcase that, but it's still theme more or less. It's has a little bit of supernatural aspect to it, and you'll see that more when I do a story centered around my old neighborhood in Chicago -- the Pullman community.
Every other story that doesn't have these locations are still linked to them. People either live "just a few miles off from Halwey" or "Duncan Groove is just a 10 minute walk from here"
