Characters Who are Karens

We all know what a Karen is. If you don’t know, then look it up. Now here’s the real question.

Do you have any characters that are Karens? Maybe a bad mom to a protag or an antagonist. I’m just curious to know if anyone has one.

I personally don’t but I’m thinking about making a side character one for no reason.

I mean.... My protagonist is... kind of a Karen really... let's be honest. Or maybe she's a "Becky", since it even rhymes with Rekki!

She's a middle class mostly-straight white girl who chooses to get behind a white authoritarian asshole because he's a handsome senpai who noticed her, even though it kinda screws over her lesbian PoC best friend. She wouldn't consider herself racist or problematic because she's not going around spouting slurs, but her thoughtless behaviour has hurt a marginalised person and all because she wanted to be special and have the attention of a guy.
Hopefully throughout the story, she gets better and makes some reparations for her past behaviour!

I have a major character in my series whose name is literally Karen. RIP me. it was just a fitting name, how was i supposed to know it will turn into a stupid meme in 5 years. now no one can understand my pain.

(If I were to pick someone in-story who acts like a "Karen" that'd be probably Karen's mother lmao (has appeared in one page, and it's some 10% of her total appearances in the story?)... waiting for her daughter to get a boyfriend and trying to convince her she's a "late bloomer" - nah, she's just gay - and trying to force her stereotypical feminine ideas and hobbies on her daughter, despite her continued lack of interest. Their relationship gets better eventually, though.)

I think I have a "Walter" and someone who kinda a "Brock" though That "Walter's" entitlement is kind of justified because he is really a person of high position who happens to be childish.

For "Bad mom" character, I think I have one who also happens to be white and blond (sorry for sounding racist, but Karen term is only for white or in fantasy case white-looking people, right?). Yet, she is more of a distant authoritative parent (with a little touch of Tiger Mom and Knight Templar Parents) than an entitled Karen.

Honestly out of all my character my gay boy may be the most karen (or Brock if we go by @uslessgoddess )

He may have more of a “reason” to be tho being actual royalty, the most educated out of all of the cast (tho not the most worldly) and just kind of done with everyone XD

He’s a bit of a wordy bastard tho so not sure that would disqualify him as a karen

now that I think of it, my main antagonist Erena might as well be a very good candidate for a karen, or even a becky given her age

So the villainous protag of my novel Birth of a Sin is not a Karen because...well she's black (African to be precise). However, she is a 'Sapphire' type character (representing Wrath, sensual, aggressive aka an Angry Black Woman). I admit it's kinda unfortunate now that I think about it, but I can't see her as any other race since that's how she appeared to me. It doesn't help that I, as a WOC, looked up to powerful, assertive women of color growing up: Pam Grier, Storm, Zoe Walsh, etc.

A few readers of mine recently pointed out that my main character (a bi, latino, angry, loudmouthed, single father in his thirties) is a Karen!! The comments made me laugh so much, but they have a point

Though I will say he only gets all angry and high mighty for good reasons. Like if he were at a restaurant and they tried to refuse service to him and his partner (because they're both men) he'd go off detailing different laws and court cases (and some other things) about how they can't/shouldn't do that, then threaten to sue the place and basically make a whole big deal out of it on their way out. Or if they're allowed to stay make a whole big deal out of that, not wanting to eat at a "bigoted place like this" or something like that XD (he'd probably ask to speak to the manager, then later call the regional manager so that they're aware of what happened and to make sure discrimination like that doesn't happen again)

So yeah he's a "good" "Karen" with feelings and a whole lot of anxiety and some anger management issues also he tries super hard to be the best dad he can be 🥺
