Cintiq vs Alternatives

Is a Cintiq so much better than alternative cheaper models that getting a Cintiq would be better in the long run and just keep what I have now?

Um... what do you have now? If it's a slab of stone and a chisel, then yeah, a Cintiq would be better.

If you have the spare money, why not? But a tool is only as good as the artist and I have seen many artists create beautiful masterpieces using a humble old bamboo.

I have an Intuous Pro Medium. I'm not thinking that a cintiq would make my art better just faster, mainly for inking my comics.

Well, if you want to splash on a new toy, go for it. I doubt it will make a huge difference, but really, I'm not the best person give advise on this as I use the cheapest Bamboo I could find.

Well I'm not just going to buy it because its a new "toy" if it makes drawing more efficient then as an illustrator that is important. As they say time is money.

Well, I'm sure you can try it out first. That's a lot of money to go in blind. Ask to try it for a while and see how it feels.
I'm pretty sure that the Wacom website has a list of places where you can try out products before you buy.

I'll say that splurging on my cintiq was one of the best things I ever did. It's a lot of money, but it has made my digital drawing a LOT easier over the years. There's a learning curve, of course, but once you get used to it, it's pretty amazing.

As for the alternatives... I've heard both good and bad things about the Yiynova, but you might be better off asking someone who's actually used one.

I myself have never used a cintiq. But i do have a yiynova which is one of the cheaper alternatives. I love mine, it's greatly sped up my work. I have the 19 inch one though would suggest if you have the money to get the largest model. There are some caveats to it but the customer service is great.

For me I never really felt comfortable using tablets linke bamboo and similar (the hand eye disconnect). I do love my pen tablet monitor the Ugee2150. It works exceptionally well and is large which I like. The price was good especially considering the free shipping. However nothing about it makes me feel like this is a premium item. Which I guess doesn't really matter in the end (plain brown shipping box, literally a couple loose screws I had to hunt down to attach the base, cheapish looking pen, etc). If art weren't just a passion/ hobby I would go with a Cintiq but for now the Ugee2150 is more than enough ^^

I think you have to think about your drawing habits too, if you like to carry art things around with you for example then it's better to stick with a small tablet, cintiqs can be heavy. I have an intous small and it's been fantastic for me so far, I tend to like to carry my stuff around so I can draw digitally at uni so a small tablet worked out better for me and I doubt I'd buy a cintiq anytime soon.

I just got an Ugee. The only problem I have noticed is a slight drag on the line sometimes when I pick up, and adjusting pen pressure didn't seem to help. It is distracting but not bad enough that I regret the purchase. Speed is still much faster than working on my Intuos, and much less strain on my eyes and hands.

It is basically a TV on a kickstand, though. There is no moving this thing from place to place if that is a concern. If you need portability, I suggest a tablet PC with pressure sensitivity features.

i agree @stellamari ... in my case I am using my phone to draw my stuffs http://tapastic.com/episode/177496 I thought having a better tool will make you a better artist, it will just make things faster... my pc went broken a year ago so I came back again with my phone and I realize one simple thing, having a good tool will never make you a better artist, it's the heart that you have in doin your stuffs haha. anyway, I am planning on having a cintiq in the future haha I really want to have one haha

Yiynova

I have a Yiynova MSP19U+ and I like it. I've never used a cintiq but I have an Introus 4. I love wacom and I will always tell someone to get a Wacom IF they have the money but I love my Yiynova. It's a bit bulky but it get's the job done and I've not had any problems huge problem with it. The only thing I noticed was just a slight color shift on my display but for me it's not a problem. I suggest this display for anyone looking for an alt to the crazy expensive cintiq. I actually noticed the color improve when I moved to Yosemite.

Once I get a new computer I will though get a cintiq, just bc, like Mac, it's my go to brand.

You can actually research reviews for the products you're looking at and compare. That's what I did. there are a TON of reviews and videos out there.

For everyone who owns "alternative" monitor tablets, how long have they lasted? I'm wondering if the durability of the Chinese brands can match a Wacom - my Intuos appears to be indestructible.
