oh man, sign me on also for Grump and Not So Grump!!
I have a huge not-at-all-disguised weakness for the Pride Before A Fall trope of proud, powerful characters suddenly finding themselves in a situation where they really need someone else's help. I don't see this much outside of fairy tales but I LOVE IT.
I love the exasperated, far-more-intelligent than their team/partner/boss, ultimately impotent straight-man.
I love villains changing sides to join the good guys (but not changing personality). Any kind of villain redemption makes me extremely happy.
This is more aesthetic than plot-based, but I'm also really fond of the Squishy Wizard, where the guy with the terrifying supernatural powers is by contrast very physically frail or has some debilitating physical weakness. There is always at least one of these in every story I create xD
I love prissy effeminate villains. I know this originally came from a kinda homophobic mindset of using that to make the villain off-putting, but uh, oops all it did was make me look at a character like Jafar and really want to grow up to be a flamboyant gay sorcerer????
