Colors less vibrant in Tapas

Hello, first time user here! I just started scheduling comic pages, and I noticed the ones I uploaded seemed noticeably less vibrant in the Tapas preview than they do in my computer file. At first I thought it was because I changed my file into a lower res png for the upload, but comparing the old file and the new one the colors look about the same. Only on Tapas do they look dimmer, less red. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there something I can do to fix it?

If you made them in CMYK color mode, they'll change colors a bit when uploaded, as internet files are RGB. Might've mistaken which is which, but in general, color modes display differently in different places.

Thanks for the reply! I was actually thinking about making it in CMYK, but my editing software doesn't actually have that setting.
Something else weird: the colors look fine when I upload the same files to Webtoon.

And you are doing all this on the same computer with the same screen and the same browser?

That's testable.

I have no idea if this is accurate nor how it works, but we can figure it out. If Webtoon seems to look different than Tapas, itcs entirely feasible that someone could perform a side-by-comparison of the same image. Heck, it can even be screencaptured and shared.

Here's the page where it's most noticeable. It's subtle, but the pink seems brighter, and the blue richer on Webtoon.

If you ask me I see a different in everything. I looks like Webtoon have some sort of auto sharp/color filter they put on when uploading???

Just like you kan do in many softwear typical with a magi stick icon

It looks like the Webtoons one. I initially noticed the tapas thing because my comic looked grayer than before. It's not horrible but I'm not a fan of the change. P:

That's really weird, because I just did a side by side of one of my comics (left is the page on Tapas, right is the preview window I pulled up from my desktop via Finder). I eye-dropped the colors to be sure they are the same hue as well, left blob from the Tapas page, right blob from the Finder preview window), and yep, they match.

EDIT: Actually, can you provide your files' metadata like this?

I'm also wondering if it's some sort of compression issue?

Hey, thanks for uploading a comparison of your own! It's good to know this isn't something that always happens, so it's likely something I can fix! (I like your art style btw!)
I don't think it's a compression issue? Because I used the same file to upload it on Webtoons and Tapas. Today I wondered if it might be caused by Tapas having a slightly bigger max file size than Webtoon, so I resized the original again and reuploaded, but it still had the same issue. It's in 300 resolution png.

there are no changes for me also, but i have heard of these happening to multiple other ppl. i also use a pc rather than a mac like you guys.

I think that I see a difference in the pinks. I wondered if maybe this was a case of one of my eyes perceiving colors differently than the other, so I flipped my phone to read it upside down. After I did that, both sides looked the same. My color vision is not particularly strong.

I still don't know how to fix this, but I did figure out a work around. I kicked the saturation up about 25 points and now the colors look a lot closer.

(Tapas is right this time, Webtoon is left.)
It's not a perfect match, but I think it's a lot better than before.

Hmm when it comes to colors it can be nearly anything.

I'm guessing one possible cause could be this:

When the file was resaved, the color space seemed to change as it isn't showing in the info. Also, when you size a file up your program literally fills in the missing data. Not sure if that was originally a problem but it doesn't help. Overall I recommend sizing down instead of up.

I would try going back to the original file again, saving one version for webtoons and another version for Tapas in the exact same manner and seeing if the differences persist.

Thanks for the insight! But re-reading through the thread, it seems the OP had the issue before resizing and was only upscaling as a test to see if that would affect the colors?

That's right! Each time I saved what I was doing was creating a new file of the appropriate size, and dropping the original into it to scale down. I was not making progressive changes to the same file. I know that wasn't super clear in my previous posts, I was trying to keep the explanation concise. ^-^;

Instead of dropping artwork into new files I recommend saving your pngs/jpgs from the original. When creating new files for everything you generate a whole list of things that could potentially cause issues.
