Pff so you're only okay with people talking about mental illness if it fits your personal preferences? As someone with long term depression and a slew of other mental issues, who's been confirmed to have it since the age of 11 but is suspected to having those issues even younger than that, I actually really liked Doki's original thread. I also like talking about it in normal discussion with people who are interested in it because it makes me feel less abnormal for living with it. Am I only allowed to discuss my issues in this forum if they're specifically about my experiences living with the condition? If I want to have a more philosophical talk (aka: ill-conceived threads) about it am I only allowed to do so if it's with someone else living with depression?
Saying you only want to allow discussion of uncomfortable topics if they fit your standards is a little dictative. It's awful that you have PTSD, and It's sad that we live in a world where such disgusting shit happens, but your way of dealing with things isn't the only way. Also a public forum shouldn't cater to one specific party, unless Tapas changes their guidelines to say they don't allow any mention of mental illness in the forums, you don't have a right to tell people what they can and can't talk about.
Also discussion and asking for advice are two different things, I don't think people are going to be going in and giving advice on PTSD in a thread where you just talk about it.
Why would I care about this? Does people choosing not to participate change something somehow? Sorry my view point is so obscure? I deal with my mental health issues differently from most people, and would like to not be alienated by the loud portion of the majority who think I need to fall in line with how they deal with their issues.
Now that makes more sense! Much more sense than repeating "this just isn't the place for it!", I can see legal issues happening if someone were to take the advice here seriously and something serious happened. With that being the case, a change in guidelines would be a good move, at least so Tapas can cover it's ass if something did happen. (because you can't really stop people from posting stuff unless you issue a bot that automatically shuts down all discussion of mental health.)
Yes, but unless you find legitimate proof that discussion is inherently more illegal than any other topic that can cause a triggered reaction, than I still stand by my case that it's no more illegal. Like, the idea of someone going to court because they made a thread in a public forum discussing suicide and self-harm in a philosophical way, and someone got upset by it is really silly.
