the reason im going for a dog is to help with lonliness and to motivate me to get out and excersize (plus a dog is the only animal mom will allow in this house), i have gotten some help from friends but my mother told me to settle down and just to get ready for when she finds one

Don't you have stray dogs in canada? we have a lot in greece , so i would recommend to adopt a stray dog , then you will only have to pay for food and vaccines.
I think you should discuss this with your mother first. Are you supposed to pay for everything of the dog or something? I suggest only having a dog when you have a stable income. Perhaps you could do a part time job somewhere locally?
We do have strays here, but as mentioned in the opening post, in Canada the fee for shelter pets is actually pretty high because of all the health regulations they go through. (I really only know this because I got a puppy a year ago so I had to read through all these things)
You also have to pay for them to get spayed or neutered which puts the price up as well. You can't NOT adopt shelter pets that have not gone through this. (At least in regards to the shelter here) They also need ID microchips and list of other testing and behaviour evaluations.
Shelter dogs range 270$ - 485$ depending on their size and age, and that's before including GST or any other provincial tax, which also gets added to the cost. (these are the prices for the shelter in my city)
Anyway.
Your best bet is to probably see if you can find local commissions, which is a lot more difficult to do but if you can't take money out of paypal there's not a lot of other options.
Curious but is there a reason you can't attach your bank-account to paypal? (you don't have to go in detail if you don't want to, it just seems like you would have more options if you were able to do that)
Dude I don't know, but I think getting a dog is just going to give you more problems, they need food, and toys, and vet visits and that costs money, too! Just consider that before getting a buddy, a dog is a LOT of work if you are looking for motivation to go out. Just go out and work out, make yourself do it. I always give myself incentives, like, I'm not going to read the new chapter of this manga until I do this and that, or I won't watch the new episode of this show until I do this and that. Simple things like that, don't give yourself more troubles than necessary.
As far as commissions, just keep putting your art out there, someone will eventually bite. There's really no magic trick about it. Just keep working.
this right here is correct, also the reason i cant attach a bank account is because my mom did that a while ago and someone got in there, she had to file for bankruptcy around 7 years ago and im wary

@sushy00 I'm 23. i dont need to ask my mom anything, plus she wants the dog too. Also, i have a mental condition that makes me unfit for work. in this case i am on a stable income with other means

Have you thought about getting a different animal, then? It sounds like you don’t want a “therapy” dog but just a companion that can stick by your side.
Maybe you could adopt a cat instead? Orrr a ferret?
Edit: actually, you said that your doctor said you needed a dog. If he’s referring to a therapy dog, shouldn’t the price be covered (to an extent) in Canada? I could be wrong though
it could be covered to get the dog trained but you need to get the dog first, and even tho i do pay half the rent, i still live with my mother, who also personally suggested a dog for reasons that i agree with.... cats are assholes (she hates them) and i am also not to fond of rodents
i think the problem is i kept my problems vegue because really its not anyone else's business so people think i just want a dog and is being childish about it. i am fighting with pricing and all that but i mainly asked for commission advice which now i was told not to worry about either so i may have @Staff lock or delete this topic since all im really getting is people trying to change my mind when they really dont know my life story or any real reason why i'll only accept a dog
Ok well in that case, you could try Patreon or Kofi, or start a donation pool of some sort. For commissions, it’s important to advertise in a community where people WANT their stuff drawn- Instagram generally works, or tumblr (maaaybe deviantart? Idk if the points can be transferred into money though)
Sometimes people need more context to be able to help you properly. We don't know if you've somehow locked yourself into a corner and thinking that getting a dog is the ONLY option, when maybe your problems could be bigger than just the art commissions or dog thing. Some of us like Kura and I are Canadian, so we can probably help you a bit more concerning finances (depending on current situation) based on the province you live in.

Honestly if you wanted a thread where people specifically and only answer your commissions questions, maybe you shouldn't bother to give all the backstory and reasoning for why you need money in the first place? Just make a thread about how you want commission work. Just saying... you add all the extra info and people are bound to get caught up in it.
