Common Themes in Your Stories

Interracial relationships.

Questioning of what it means to be 'good'. People doing questionable things in order to get what they ultimately want.

Superpowers, and/or demons. Anti-heroes, sympathetic villains. These are some common tropes.

RIGHT?!

I love the aggressive, beastly women with calmer or even more feminine men! I don't know why but the subversiveness of it is just really cool to me. I'm so happy to see that more often in media (also, Amara from Borderlands 3? I love her. Like she is my fave).

The four elements: water, fire, air and earth, or variations of that.
A character that is a swordsman or uses swords.
Buff dark skinned guys. huh.
The power of friendship.
Smaller casts of characters. I've always wanted to do a bigger cast, but I'm having trouble picking a concept to go with.

I often show complex characters that overcome some difficulties. And always with some kind of happy end. And I always use stories of love, family and friendship.

I also seem to like a certain type of couples called "opposites attract". And the most favourite seems to be "cheerful and kind person plus cold and aggressive one"

And for some reasons I always have some white feline as one of the important characters. I don't know why, might be my fetish XD
Like really, I never did that on purpose, but here are 4 my stories (3 are old and dead) and all 4 have white felines. They are absolutely different in their personalities, but look really alike

There're also some racing or car related themes in my stories. It just happens, I didn't actually do that on purpose. But I definitely love cars X)

Oh boy, time to expose myself.

1. Anxious and/or reckless female lead/main character
2. Prejudice and bullying, especially one created when people can't find something "visible" to shun the target for.
3. Amazing powers, hopeless in a social situation.
4. Magic
5. Convenient long periods of unconsciousness where the person doesn't get brain damage or dies of thirst.
6. Characters that lose control of their abilities or are mind controlled into it, oh no Bob I know you're in there somewhere!

1. Characters who try to hide their emotions but they could actually desperately use a hug (if they'll let you)
2. Surprise! It's sad
3. Characters who don't seem to get along, but when times get tough, you'd better bet they're there for each other
4. Villains who are actually not all that villainous deep down
5. Super exuberant characters paired with extremely quiet ones

Probably death, or the metaphorical aspect of dying as opposed to the real thing, though the latter does show up from time to time. I like amnesia a bit, that shows up too, as well as really dramatic, tragic character deaths. Nervous breakdowns are really fun, too!
Also, goofy, goofy faces and generally silly main characters to lighten the mood. I don't think I have a single character who isn't making some sort of a silly expression half the time.

probably lots of little nihilistic things hidden among themes of self discovery, understanding, healing and coping. i guess there's some hope mixed in there too but also trying to hold on to it

Seeing a land, divided into factions.

Waring against one another externally while having their own internal problems such as succession crisis, civil wars, and revolts or any natural disasters etc.

While the main character will grow, gain experience and forge his own destiny to unite all factions into one nation.

Mhm...i like romance and ships, always hunting them in tv series or stories that i create, they just come naturally from me ever since i was a child, i just can't help it XD
About the characters, i like spicy ones in term of humor, personality and looks, like those who have a sharp-tongue, smart-ass type, flirtingYplayful type, but i also like characters with a genuine badass attitude and have strong values, such as self.improvement, character development for the good and so on.

I have no idea why i tend to like these themes, i guess it changed through time as well, but i'm really only attracted and truly inspired by these ^^ only small problem is that they end up looking all the same i guess (speaking of original characters haha it's fine to me)

Dealing with loss in life. Seems my characters always have to cope with some kind of loss. Sometimes it's loss of loved ones, or loss of a way of life or even purpose.

i recently made a 'wishlist' of all the characters and premises knocking around my head, and this is what i found. i think it sums up my interests as a storyteller; im interested in trauma, isolation, and using the supernatural to explore those things. oh and grief. boy howdy.

theres also these outliers abt like, london or capitalism that dont fit into the rest of the stuff in terms of tone or genre, so theres more to be explored

Oh this is an interesting thread! XD It's nice seeing the themes in other creators' works and I saw a few that are common to mine.

I think the common themes in mine would be:

• Emotionally strong women
• Societal problems (leaning towards Asian values)
• Focus on technology (Going to post a short story collection next month about this!)
• Emotional rollercoasters
• Action thrillers (Will be in that short story collection!) and romance subplots

Protagonists with inhuman morality trying their best to understand and adapt to human morality. I think this is an interesting theme for superhero stories as the powers of the protagonist superhumans become physical representations of the alieness inside the superhuman. Trespasser comments about how his costume is his real self and his powers are described in bestial terms. His regeneration bleeds, his super strength rips and crushes. Stardust wants to change the world to be more like his own because that's the only way things make sense to him and so he has transformation powers.

I'd say my common themes are:

• Hopelessness; the feeling that conflicts around you are larger than you and you'll never be able to change that because you as an individual are irrelevant.
• Small pockets of happiness (that later hurt the characters even more when they have to remember them).
• Existential nihilism
• Hope, sometimes idealism
• Familial love
• Travels
• Some SciFi element (fantasy in a few cases)
