So we all have inspirations for our comics and novels overall, but what about specific couple dynamics?
Are your couples or pairs of best friends inspired by romantic or platonic relationships in other media? List and discuss here!

For my human x monster couple in Secunda, the biggest influence was from Venom. I think the continually evolving love-hate relationship between the symbiote and Eddie Brock is really neat. Plus the whole 'parasite'/host thing gave me a good basis for my couple to avoid totally one-sided power dynamics.

As for other pairs that I didn't realize inspired me until after I finished my manuscript:
Ryuko Matoi and Senketsu from Kill la Kill. Their partnership really made me root for them and they just complement each other really well.
Red and the guy in the transistor from Transistor. I'll try and not spoil the game but the romance without being romance is just my cup of tea.

Funny that these last two pairs are both gals with objects. x]

I am a big fan of the witty and sexy banter between Nick and Nora in the old "The Thin Man" movie series that starred William Powell and Myrna Loy. There's just a delightful playfulness in their performances that I'm always looking to mimic.

I also have a soft spot for the Riggs and Murtaugh dynamic from the Lethal Weapon franchises. Just the right formula for the buddy cop genre. It's machismo with a bunch of stuff left unsaid but made clear by how far they go for each other.

I was recently rereading From Points of Three the manwha, and I was like OH! I clearly took inspo from this even though I read it AGES ago.

Inho as the softboy who is easily seduced but doesn't take shit from anyone. (Jisuh)
Stephen as the manipulative rich guy that falls in love way too hard and has to learn to stop being a piece of crap. (Heejay)

I know it's a fairly common dynamic, and the plots don't match at all, but it made me feel fuzzy to reread and be reminded of where I first saw it and liked it.

I honestly cannot figure out my inspiration, probably it never deliberate.
Sometimes I think maybe I am influenced by things in real life than in fiction.

I always go for those one sided love with their friend
It somewhat relate me in things that happens in real life
something like Sekaiichi hatsukoi feels
most of my inspirations came from manwhas and mangas
(that focuses on unrequited love they had sobs)

I guess the relationship between Risa and Otani from Lovely Complex is my biggest inspo. They are both idiots but they have so much fun together, first as friends and then as more.

My latest finished book was actually trying to fix my flaw of making my female leads too strong and capable in a relationship, while men were too whimsical and intellectual.

So, for the male lead, a friend had written out an inspiration list of moods/quotes for a bad boy. For three books in a row, I referred to this list to make more appealing male characters, plus made them all a fighting type.

Then I started a bxb, and regressed right back to whimsical and intellectual males.

The relationship in my series is mostly platonic, a little romance, but mostly platonic. I mostly got inspired by "Ed, Edd n' Eddy," "Gintama," and real life with the friends I hangout/used to hangout with.

My father/daughter duo was first inspired by Murdock and BA from the A-Team. BA acts like he's constantly annoyed by Murdock but would ultimately still be the first one to defend him. My first thought became "What if Murdock was BA's kid?" Which lead me to my second inspiration of Wolverine and all of his adopted daughters (Rogue, Shadowcat, Jubilee, etc.)

I didn't have a specific inspiration for my main couple. There are a lot of genius x protector dynamics out there but I ultimately just wanted their relationship to be two humans meet, think each other are cute, and start to spend all their free time together because they also happen to enjoy the other human's company.

Thor and Did in my comic were kind of based off Morticia and Gomez.
Like, they're weird, but they're perfectly happy with each other.

I really want to explore platonic intimacy, especially with male relationships. I’m in love with Banana Fish so I modeled my MC and his friend after Ash and Eiji. Minus the tragedy  also the idea that friends can be close and not get together and be ok remaining just that

When I'm writing friendships (one of my favorite things to write) I start with personalities, flaws, ticks, interests, and all, and I build conversations between characters based on that. I use those conversations as bases to create dynamics, and then work outward from there to create full on situations in which they interact. With romantic relationships (which are always religated to subplots) nine times out of ten I'll just write the entire dynamic and realize that I just wrote the dynamic between my parents. Either that or I just write a friendship with more hand holding.
