Your monsters look badass, I especially like the one with all the arms, its the stuff of nightmares. I can't wait for your comic, your monsters all look so interesting.

@heterodont Oh gosh, that last bird creature, Zachriel, is so cool! Those colors you picked for it are super nice! I always loved interpretations of angels, because going by what the true text says, they really weren't as beautiful as those figures we put on Christmas trees. There really is a reason that everytime they show up, they exclaim, "Do not be afraid."

I've only got one creepy beastie so far in Grassblades, but there will be a few more before I'm done:

This snake-tongued creature has a creepy elongated neck, sharp claws and teeth, and a tongue to strangle people with. It turns up in chapter 3, making its home in a village shrine.

He is somewhere around 10 to11ft. In all truth I kept his boots on becuase I don't like drawing feet 😅

I only really have the technical details about these things and some old sketches but yee.

Their forms vary greatly, they are more like mutants and their designs are dependent on what/who they were (unless they've gone so far they don't really resemble anyone anymore like the one above).

The creatures do what they desire most or feel like doing at the time even if it becomes an inconvenience or blatantly harmful to them.

Large ones can passively cause feelings of discomfort and fear, possibly followed by headaches, breathing difficulty and loss of vision or balance just by being near them for an extended time. If a person is unfortunate enough they could end up fainting.

So my comic takes place in a world where everyone wheres masks and these things called "blanks" just wander around everywhere:

They're pretty much everywhere and it's not uncommon to have one just walk through your kitchen in the middle of dinner. They're so common that nobody really gives them a second glance and they're practically harmless as they don't have any awareness and just sorta wander around aimlessly. For the most part the only hassle is one might stand in front of your TV or something.
That is unless you drop your mask!

They sorta have a tendency to steal faces if they see them which is why everyone wears masks
If they manage to steal a face and get away with it, they eventually completely turn into the person, memories, personality, body and all:

Which is basically the whole concept my comic revolves around!

Only one has made an appearance so far but they also come in the animal verity which can only steal animal faces:

(These are however much more rare as they usually manage to steal a face before they have the chance to reproduce and make more animal blanks so the chance of your pet's face actually getting stolen is about one in a million unlike humans who are pretty much fucked if they drop their mask.)

The only fantastical creature in Zounds, Alack, and By My Troth so far is Puck, who was inspired by Brian Froud's goblin artwork. I'm pleased with the combination of thin spindly arms and thick stumpy legs, and the Victorian-style outfit that sets him apart from the other characters. I've not drawn him interacting with average-sized characters much, but he's only about three feet tall (plus top hat!)

@WakaXO Give feet a chance! Honestly, that's why I have most of my characters barefoot. XD I hate drawing shoes!

@TrustyShamrock Ahh thank you! And you can put your robots here! The only requirement is non-human thing, and that fits. XD Doesn't have to be organic.

Here are some creatures form my comic Demon Shrine I usually find references based off the world and theme of the creature in its environment in the comic. When it comes to making them I tend to do 3 to 4 versions of the critter along with color and silhouette...... the same process I do for human characters. ^^ I still do tweaks/changes for them before they make there final debut on the pages.

@JessJackdaw ha, I am the opposite, I love drawing shoes but can't draw a good foot to save my life... I will have to practice for future scenes with Sparkles Mc-Pangolin Man (also I will probably start using your nickname for him, before I was calling him pine-cone-butt XD )

I regularly do doodles and such and I often do VERY RANDOM DOODLES that turn out really good and so I take those and run with them.

But for my comics I actually have a few rules for the Demi-god forms of my Shrine Beasts. Take Bar for example. He's the one Demi-god character that has been introduced so far although he doesn't look much different from a normal tiger aside from his excessive size but here Bar is rather the exception. Demi-gods have a second form that they can call upon to use when their natural form and power is not enough and Bar rarely uses his. The more often a Demi-god uses their second from the more warped their second form becomes and eventually their natural form also begins to show signs of warping.

The older Demi-gods (that readers will meet later and in other stories) all show signs of this but so as not to put out any spoilers I wound show any of them yet....

The reasoning being, most of the demons that appear in my series are born of human sins or are tied to the human world so they take on humanoid or recognizable animal-like forms. The angels, well, they're just out of this world.

So I'll post more preliminary designs of the creatures in my comic! Most of my sentient creatures are based on fantasy classes, but taken in a more scientific light.) Probably hardest part I encounter when designing these creatures is finding out different ways to fudge eyebrows on creatures without eyelids. XD Seriously how do you make bug faces emote without going humanoid?!

Dang, some of the monsters ITT are neato as heck. Makes me want to contribute as well.

The Fishinkas are the "sexy" fish-girls from the horrible video game my protagonist has created. They're meant to be simple, desireable, and marketable. In the game, they're essentially just weird sexy pokemon, but in the TV show based on the game, they're more active "characters". Think of a really braindead mashup of Pokemon, Steven Universe, and Naruto, and you get the world that these things inhabit.

The brown one is Lantern-Chan, and her rival is Eel-Chan. They have nebulous "bloodline abilities", whatever that means.
