Might as well give a little detail on this:
Leia Taylor (as bad as she feels about it) sort of has two crushes. One she likes because he kind of makes everyone around him feel like they're special when he's around them. The other she likes because he's always there to listen and worries about her without being pushy. She knows she can trust him with all her secrets (or could, if half her secrets weren't her brother's secrets,) but he never tries to force her to tell him anything. He's just there if she needs him.
Crush one is kind of a horrible person and she knows it, so she wishes she could just be in love with crush two. There is no sign whatsoever whether crush two is interested in her as anything but his friend, but I hope I'm managing to write her feelings in a believable way. Sometimes even if you know your heart will be broken either way, you'd rather it be broken by a love that was worth loving.
I think this is probably my one and only story where I have a character who has two people they like. It's such a trope, and I never thought I'd write it, but given the context of the story I really do think it makes it better. Her emotions are far too complicated and she doesn't have time to try to make sense of herself while she's busy trying to keep her brother above water.
