Design choices you love to look at but regret having to draw

I want to see the Bad Choices ™ you've made. Characters designs you made purely for the aesthetic and then realized it would be a pain to draw, maybe because it's too detailed or because there's something about it that's hard to draw.

Mine is Ethelred, the villain from Antemortem. I wanted him to have some mystery to him and also I wanted him to be spooky. I do like the mask he wears, but now that I'm trying to do more character art I realize I'm stuck drawing that dang mask. Still love the look though! Here he is on the cover, lurking in the back.

Will have more art of him later, but now this one's the best one.

I regret this netting/mesh clothing. And giving a character who exclusively wears short sleeve shirts a tattoo on their arms.

To be fair though, it does look good the way you draw it! Her design in general is so fun though, I love the way her goggles make her eyes look, lol.

The main setting of my story having not one, but two spiral staircases! I am so glad I made this a novel instead of the webcomic it was originally going to be, or I would've been so cooked.

Tattoos look cool but I've never given my characters any because of this. I'm a coward like that, lol. Are there any brushes you can use to make at least the netting easier?

@bulgariansumo Okay, but they do look cool, just can't imagine having to draw that! The design is nice though, with the railing kinda floating there

Nah, everyone would be sitting on a stool because there's no way I would draw those chairs, lol.

@IndigoShirtProd Yeah, it's tough finding bushes that work sometimes. The mesh does look good though!

All of Ea’s tentacle gradients.

So many alpha lock layers.. so much pain… at least when they’re tiny there’s nothing like that to deal with.

I dunno, sometimes clean/simple designs work well! They definitely look like they're related though with the similar hair style and color

@AmeTsunami The gradients look so nice though! When I was reading your comic I really liked the sorta watercolor look of it and the sketchy lines.

Ah good! I was actually kind of worried that there was a significant variation in their hair color cause I used a different watercolor brush for the sister.

Haru is easy to draw; she only has, like, a few outfits to choose from.

Tsukasa, on the other hand, has, like, FIVE MILLION OUTFITS. And the number only increases. And Tsukasa, being the fashionista he is, switches between them every second. And guess what? ALL OF THEM are stunning to look at, but are immensely difficult to draw!

That's why I had to resort to simplifying them, which I could afford to do with my "bad" art style.

Here's all the outfits he wore. (I had posted thirteen episodes so far):

Ugh, that would be her! She has way too much going on to reproduce on a panel per panel basis. I mean, she looks cool and all, but damn do I have regrets

I’ll show two of them in one image: Wings, and a finely detailed 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer that belongs to a major character. I love drawing vehicles, but there is too much chrome on that Wagoneer. Wings? I don’t love drawing wings.

For an upcoming comic;

Her chocker because I always forget it. Like, it adds to the kinda promiscuous nature of the ghost girl and, I feel, adds a lot. Her stockers are also black so it ties the design together. But I just cannot, for the life of me, remember it and always have to go back and edit episodes.

But besides that little thing, I've been doing comics enough to kinda know what would be "too much" for me in a design now. But, from a finished comic; the goggles. Haaated those with a passion. they never looked right at some angles and every time they used them over their eyes it looked goofy as heck. But it fit them so well...

The different outfits are really nice but yeah, I can't imagine the daily outfit changes, lol.

@KevinReijnders That is a cool design though! The details really say a lot about the character, like the scars and prosthetics, but it must be a pain to keep track of it all

@ThunderChicken Yeah, wings look col but drawing them is so tough, but dang, that car looks REALLY good! It's so detailed and you really got the textures down!

@remiquise Lmao, I feel that, sometimes it's the little things. One of my new characters has a scar on one side of his face I keep forgetting to draw.
